Just got an Emachine computer (IBM restore discs) up and running again....it would not restore with the discs that came with it. I used Fdisk and installed Windows98SE from a full install disk. I have this computer hooked to my Compaq moniter. It is working fine in all but one respect..... In the control panel, under the display icon, I only have 16 colors....no other options are there. what is causing this? What the heck is wrong? is it drivers?? hope someone can help me??
thanks

You need to install the graphics drivers for your videocard.
If it`s onboard graphics then you can get these from your mobo manufacturers website.
If it`s a separate graphics card then you will need to visit your graphics card manufacturers site.

Run the everest programme, and on the first screen that appears select sumary.
All the important info about your system will be displayed.
If you`re not sure what to look for right click on the page and select copy all, then post the info here and I`ll take a look at it for you.

Your graphics card is an ATI 3D-Rage IIC.
You need to go to the ATI website click on drivers and software , and select your Operating system I.E Windows 98. On the next page select Rage, then RAGE IIC, then download and install the drivers.
Thank you SO much for your help.....the driver is installed and this baby is running like a top!!.
THANKS AGAIN.....This site is just the best for help.

Hi,
I've read your communications with Katy24 about the 16 colors problem. I tried to follow your advice about finding out the manufacturer of my video card, but I can only find where it tells me that it's a standard PCI graphics Adaptor (VGA). There is no manufacturer listed. I've got Windows 98SE and am using the display control panel to find this info. I stupidly went out and bought a brand new monitor, hoping that would help--that's how clueless I am about Windows (I'm a native MAC user). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download Everest from here (http://www.lavalys.com/). As Howard said you'll find the most important specs under summary.
