Hi , thanks I got that to work, but I have another question,
I have compaq armada m700 laptop with one usb port, when I installed the debian sarge by ftp in the installation I specified that I'm using usb mini mouse which wasn't too smart, now I when I try to use same usb port to trnsfer pics from the came nothing happenes. Now what would I have to do to maybe use usb 2-3 way spliter, reconfigure debian again or is there anything else that I can do, I cna just use regular ps/2 port for mouse. Thanks

The mouse is not your problem.

USB is hot-pluggable and an OS is supposed to recognise when something is unplugged and something else connected. When you connect the camera, check /var/log/messages and run lsusb to see all your USB devices to see if Debian realises you have the camera connected.
