Error caused by a device driver

"First time caller, long time listener"

I am having a serious problem with my computer. Every now and then my computer just decides to shut down. There is no specific time it happens and when it does, I get a error message on reboot that says "Error caused by a device driver".

A breakthrough tonight was I found a situation that will cause it every single time. When I run 'MSCONFIG' and go through my start up programs and disable or enable or don't even touch them..... when I select APPLY or OK on that screen...... CRASH!!!! And on reboot, I get the same error message.

Any help would be much appreciated.... this is killing me!!!

Thanks in advance.

One more thing: I just went back into MSCONFIG and realized I have nothing under System.ini or Win.ini. Not too sure if this is related but I thought I would include it. I know I definitely use to have stuff in both of these.

Thanks.
