USB driver problems in Win XP

(note: If this ain't in the right place, feel free to flame me until I die over it. :) )

Hi,
Recently (and very suddenly), two of my USB devices - namely a WiFi Adapter and an iPod Mini - have started to refuse to work when plugged into the PC. The message "USB Device not recognized" pops up, even though I know for sure that these drivers have been installed. All other devices, such as the scanner and printer, work perfectly in USB.

Please help!!

Thanks,

B. B. Clinton

Look for these items in the Device Manager and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark next to them. That means there is a problem with the drivers or there aren't any drivers. Since you know drivers have been installed, try uninstalling the devices through the Device Manager (not physically, just through the Manager), restart and let Windows detect and reinstall them. See if that helps.

without the system running, try attaching just one and letting XP assign a new
drive letter.
*IF* it can, then use the device mgr to reassing it somewhere in the middle of
the alphabet.
repeat with the second device.

With consecutive drive letters already assigned, windows sometimes fails to
map a new device correctly.

they just come up as Unknown Devices, nothing about drive letters.
