the issue to be solved is the access to the ports you need. if the server is
properly configured, this will not work, even with a proxy under your control.
you've got the right idea, but are viewing it backwords.

a proxy maps a lan port x to a public port y.

There's just no advantage to using X because
if Y is blocked by the admin, you're just doa (dead on arrival).

if your access is via the browser itself (ie NOT a program installed on your system) then you might google for 'anonymous browsing'

With a large population of students, all sharing the campus access, the network can easily drown by just a few streaming videos or mp3 channels. The asset (ie network) is there to facilitate learning and research. Yea, I like music too (violinist for 12yrs), but the ability to search, browse, and download research work is paramount to the univeristy. If you're a resident student, this means that your free time WILL be limited in this particular.

yeah ive gotten by em before, and i gave the idea to a few people...the whole school got an email from our IT people, which basically said that you arent supposed to do this....

that was a while ago...im gambling and doing it again a different way, they blocked a few ways but this time im keeping it to myself

still wrking on a way to make myself not show up to them when im going around blocks
