DonNagual 01-16-2006, 12:00 AM Two things to gnaw on for you:
1. Get a higher quality PSU. That one you have is on the black list (see this thread here for which companies to buy from: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=792566 )
2. If you are going to be getting an SLI board, why not get an Nvidia GPU. This way you at least have the option of doubling up on your cards in the future.
If you want that ATI card, then either get a good non-SLI board, or get yourself a good crossfire board (one of the two). Just makes more sense to me.
DonNagual 01-16-2006, 12:02 AM And another major point (almost missed it).
You are looking at a microATX case, and an ATX motherboard.
If you want that case, you must get a microATX motherboard or it won't fit.
iNoob 01-16-2006, 12:20 AM I can tell this is going to one shiny system...literally. DonNagual is right, get an nVidia card if you're going to get an SLI board (7800GTX 512MB is good) or you can change your board to a Crossfire one and keep the x1800xt.
If you have access to wired LAN, use it, because wireless connections are not so great for gaming.
DonNagual 01-16-2006, 12:27 AM I would even go so far as to say, unless you are going to buy 2 high end GPUS right from the beginning, then don't bother with Crossfire/SLI boards.
For example, 6 months ago I bought the A8N-SLI deluxe with a 6800GT intending to upgrade to a second 6800GT in the future. Now it is upgrade time. I can get a second 6800GT for about $300 or get a 7800GT (which is BETTER THAN two 6800GTs) for $400.
I sold my 6800GT for $200 and bought a 7800GT for $400 costing me $200 total. Cheaper than it would have costed me to get a second 6800GT and my performance is better.
Long story short, don't get SLI/Crossfire as an upgrade option. Either get 2 high end GPUs right away, or get a single GPU based motherboard.
computerkid 01-16-2006, 01:51 AM ok soo im not very good w/ all of this..usuaing as much of the stuff i showed that i want... tell me what motherboard and case i should get , and whatever else i need to build a good pc.
DonNagual 01-16-2006, 02:09 AM Hey, I don't think you are doing that bad! Just a few changes, and you are well on your way to a really nice system. Just keep posting and getting feedback, that is what this site is for.
Here are some transpartent ATX cases for you to look at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=&PropertyCodeValue=548%3A8287&PropertyCodeValue=549%3A8364&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=7&Submit=Property
Then that motherboard you are looking at will slide in it nicely. And it is a very nice motherboard. For the top of the line boards it is mid-level, but make no doubt it is a top of the line board. I say it is mid-level because there are faster boards out there. But what I like about that board is that it is extremely reliable and easy to work with.
Note that it has notchipset fan on it though, so your case will need good circulation to keep it cool.
CrossFire851 01-16-2006, 02:36 AM There was 2 things troubling me first,
In the high-end world aren't we using 10000 rpm hardrives
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144160
you won't use it all up on the ultimate gaimg rig
the gpu should be a 7800GTX 512 MB wich out performce a x1800 there also coming out soon w/ a x1900 so at that amount of money i would wait or get the 7800GTX 512 MB as it is a SLI BOARD
flavin 01-16-2006, 03:01 AM my suggestion is to get an AMD X2 4400+ instead of the 4200. both are dual core and 2.2ghz but the 4400 has 2mb L2 Cache over the 4200's 1mb L2 Cache.
if u dont know cache is memory specifically for the processor.
A_DOG73 01-16-2006, 03:14 AM Dude, what are you going to use the computer for? I'm curious. 500 for a graphics card! Jesus. I know you are trying to build the best system but, DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! I agree with the 2 gigs of Ram. Ram seems to go up every year and in two years 2 gigs of Ram should be standard. Back to the point, you must me doing some seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerious computing with what you posted as your potential future system!
You better be playing all the latest games out kid, not just to get 100fps in 1.6 cs while encoding a video, playing music, burning a cd, and running sysmark. Lmao, im jp, well yeah, you better play some good games with that killer rig!
computerkid 01-16-2006, 12:25 PM hahaha yeah its gonna be awsome..thank you for the advice i will definatly check thoes out..now i have a question about the video card the processor has dual video card capability so should i just stick with getting 1 really nice video card or get two not so nice ones? some other things are is my power supply big enough to run all of these? and i was just looking at my mothyer board it is capable of using 4GB of memory so im gonna up to 4GB. anything else i should get?
o and just to let u know i am a kid im 14... i have built two computers before but they were cheap like $500... i want to be a computer engineer so one day my dad decided to buy me all this stuf and put it in my face and said "here build it" it was awsome.. so yeah now he is letting me sell his old train sets to get the money to buy this computer..and im have a birthday party..im changing my house into a night club and charging $15 at the door <<<thats money will me my b-day present..haha ok well
ok on my list i have changed my HDD to a 10,000 rpm 74GB western digital, My video card to a GeForce GTX video card, and my processor to an Athlon 64 X2 4400+. now im not sure what all this computer talk stuff is ..were you trying to tell me to change my motherboard too or no?? i got confused?
computerkid 01-16-2006, 12:35 PM haahha i am going to have people pay to use my computer!! mmmmuahhhhhaaaa..lol
CrossFire851 01-16-2006, 01:27 PM Ha that's funny(post above), anyways I was glad to see you went with the hdd I recomened. I'm also the same age haha.
computerkid 01-16-2006, 01:33 PM crossfire..wherev u live?? i live in michigan..
CrossFire851 01-16-2006, 01:35 PM CALIFORNIA repercent!!! :bounce:
computerkid 01-16-2006, 01:47 PM tight..i have been there ..there is alot of fine A*s there ..haha ok and oen more question for you guys before i have to go what OS would be the best for my new system??
CrossFire851 01-16-2006, 01:52 PM It's ture, anyways I think win XP HOME OR PRO would be good for gaming. :bounce:
Hmm, go with two 7800 gt's! for your gpus. And xp pro, cause home dosent support dual core cpus if you decide to get one.
CrossFire851 01-17-2006, 01:23 AM I dint know that pro supported duel- core cpus thanks for the the comment :grinthumb
CrossFire851 01-17-2006, 01:26 AM Unlease you mean X64-win XP Pro that the only one that supports Duel-Core-CPUs :hotouch: and 64-bit ones and heres the link http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/trial.mspx
flavin 01-17-2006, 02:20 AM Hmm, go with two 7800 gt's! for your gpus. And xp pro, cause home dosent support dual core cpus if you decide to get one.
2x 7800 gtx in sli are definately better than one gtx. but a 7800 gtx 512mb is the best
but when are u planning on buying all this stuff and putting that comp together? cause new graphics cards from both nvidia and ATI are suppose to be comming out in less a month. so i suggest u wait till atleast the middle of february to see what happens with these cards. ATI's x1900 and supposedly nvidia's 7900.
computerkid 01-17-2006, 04:38 PM yeah i was going to wait anyways..try and put the money together and pluse my birthday is in march so i will most likly be gitting money for that and possibly some of the stuff on my list. so i will probably wait until march sometime to buy anything for sure and hopefully they will have the brand new stuff out. well thanks for all your guys's help..and give me as many more suggestions as you want to for helping me build the ultimate PC.. i will check this a few time a day so i will love the feedback. no and i upped the RAM i want instead of 2GB i want the 4GB so i can have my max ram capacity for the board...anything else please put feedback on..even negative stuff idc just ust what ever u want to i will be happy to read it.
Akifuddin 01-17-2006, 04:54 PM I've heard that NVIDIA cards are better than ATI cards because some of ATI's drivers aren't that good for shading, also, most nvidia NVIDIA cards (especially when SLI'd) are faster than ATI cards...the driver part is just what I've heard though.
computer help 01-17-2006, 10:49 PM sli is bad news
and your tower isnt cool enough look at thermaltake soprano
and geil ram leaves coarsair for dead and gigabyte m/b
is the way to go for amd 4200 x2
dual channel ram m/b
and ati cards run in gigabyte boards reall good :>
CrossFire851 01-18-2006, 01:54 AM for all this stuff, your going to need a huge case for it to look right. I have a mid size case and man, it looks cluttered and my stuff isn't has high-tech
