Need audio driver

I have been searching for the right driver for my speakers. There is an exclamation point on my Multimedia Audio Driver-looking in the properties it says looking for alcx wdm.sys file-Realtek AC97, when looking through the drivers listed they all have a number eg. alc880. Can anyone tell me which driver is proper.

I have downloaded two files from driver files from Realtek and they shut my system down to a black screen, had to go to restore in saftey mode.

Thanx in advance.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go to your mobo manufacturers website. You`ll get the correct audio driver there.

If you have an oem machine such as Dell/Hp etc. Go to your machines manufacturers website.

I had the same problem about a month ago on an old pc I tried to get up and running. I started with what howard suggested but ended up going to the realtek website to get a driver that worked. Mine was an ECS motherboard. Hopefully the opposite will work for you!
