I'm trying to install a samsung sh-w162c dvd writer. My machine refuses to recognize it. ide cable seems fine, setting is slave as according to the instructions. It's getting really frustrating!

Check if it is being recognized in your bios.

Is it getting any power from the PSU? (when you turn your system on, do the lights come on)?

Yep, the door opens too!!
I've tried removing the old cd player, also a samsung, which was set to master, and replacing it with the new one, also set to master. Didn't work either.
