Photoshop Font Problems

I'm new to Photoshop and lately I've been having some font problems. I've downloaded several fonts from various websites and I've extracted them all to my WINDOWS/fonts folder. When I go to use them in Photoshop, they're not on the list. I know the fonts work because I also use The Gimp and I'm able to use them perfectly with that program.
