Hya everyone well I have a problem Avg Anti-virus7.0 will not delete or re-install it is not working and the error details are as follows:

Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Undefined error: Initialization of the setup data file failed.
Opening of the setup data file "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\setup.dat" failed.
No such file or directory

I am using Windows Xp I have tried deleting in safe mode but still get the same message help needed as not protected at moment. I have also tried system recovery but to no avail.

Thanks

Try Start\Search\All files and folders and search for AVG, then delete anything found, then re-install AVG.

Or try this Regscrub XP ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048)

No sorry does not work some files could be deleted but the rest say could not be removed or unable to read file. I did get the reg scrub that fixed 95 problems not that I know what it all means can advise.

This can get rid of stubborn files KILLBOX (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php)

and,or,you might try deleting those files in safe mode (tap F8 just after startup).

Inorder to reinstall AVG you`ll have get rid of those files somehow.

There`s another reg utility HERE (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) which worked for someone with exactly same problem.

Those 95 items that Regscrub found are just bits of junk left there by old programs.Unfortunately,it seems, not AVG.
