BIOS memory writer flashing "Please Wait" over an hour

Hi. I'm trying to set up a used computer, i went to
the manufacturer's web site and downloaded both the Award BIOS flash
program and the BIOS file for my particular mother board.

When i started the flash program, i was prompted first for the file it
was supposed to use and then asked me if i wanted to write a back-up of
the current BIOS to disk (presumably to the floppy). This was about an
hour ago. I'm getting nervous! The screen says "now backup BIOS to file"
and is flashing "Please wait!". The floppy drive light is on, indicating
that the floppy is engaged, but it doesn't really sound like it's
writing anything. Is this at all normal? Should it really be taking this
long? How long does it normally take to back up the BIOS? If i turn my machine off will it start back back up ok?

Please help anyone.

Eric

NEVER STOP A flash. IT can take a while. BE PATIENT. If it takes more than a couple hours, something is wrong.

I hope you SAVED the original BIOS.

Thanks for responding, that's the problem, I did instruct it to save a backup but it's just saying "now backup system bios to file!" then the error message is flashing "Please wait". 2 hours now. there is a solid green light on the floppy but it's not doing anything. you think it just may be frozen in space somewhere? :)
