by the way burning the ends off of a bread tie works much better than a paper clip, Many thanks to everyone here on TechSpot who contribuited, Mainly you Ididmyc600
Studer
There's another good idea and one I will add to the site, a bread tie!!! I never thought of that one,
As for the legality of this, well its Dell PC who can complain if they like after all we are bypassing the security of the systems they build, but as their second user, no proof, support sucks, I think it's justifiable.
I have been running the site for over 6 months now and niether Dell or NTL the webhosters have had any contact with me to complain, apart from which the info is in the public domain and has been for many years, its just never been documented fully as it is now on the site.
A big shout out to Paragon33 who is the guru behind the info and without whom I would be nomad wondering in the desert of ignorance,
The info is "is as" and you are welcome to try it or leave it, after all you can get instructions on the web on how to build incendiary devices and the like, I think therefore that this comes under the freedom of speech act and would be difficult to control,
If I take the site down someone else will put one up and so on and so forth.

Hello rustam, I am new to this website and this is my first post. I recently bought a laptop Dell Latitude model D600 from a garage sale.I noticed the laptop was asking for an "Administrator password?" I asked the lady that sold it for the password but she told me it belonged to her husband who sadly passed away and so she did not know it. I thought I could get it unlocked for a few bucks but I was sadley mistaken. I was desperate so I did a web search and ended up here. I read many reviews and posts on your miracles. So if anyone can help me im shure it will be you. My service tag #3VQ3X31-595B. I beg of you please help an old fool out or any info you can provide will really help me. As you know Dell will not help me and I would hate to throw my money away. I know nothing about pc's and I am desperate.
Thank you for your time

Is the password prompt in Windows or during boot up? If it's in Windows, format the drive and re-install Windows. You'll need a bootable Windows disc.

No its the good old Dell security screen he has, there are a couple of threads
here
you can also read the website in my tag, it has all the info you need,
You can also shout Rustam, he does like a good story in return for the password, however he isnt in very often, and this is now the third thread on the same subject, so I will ask a mod to lock this thread.

Ive tired the paper clip method many many times and ive got no response. The location of the chip on the d800 is on the right top of the docking bay if your looking at the chip right side up. Not much was mentioned about which legs to short on my model but i tired combinations of all of them.Ive taken my machine apart so many times that i even dremeled holes the case for easy shorting. If theres a combinaton of legs to short or a method plz let me know.

Hi Rustam
I've a similar tale of woe concerning a Latitude D510, service tag #7VMNG1S-595B, HDD ID #2PAX2D5MDEG-595B
I got this from a deceased estate auction, minus the master boot password and HDD password. Dell don't believe it's really mine (quite rude), and were no help. I've managed to remove the master boot password by dismantling the laptop and shorting the EEPROM, but the HDD won't budge.
Can you help?

Hi,
Thanks Ididmyc600 for the links to the HDD unlocking program - some great utilities on this site. (See post about 3 back)
Unfortunately the HDD Unlocker didn't work for me - mine is one of the brands not supported. What a bummer!
Looks like my only recourse is to hope for a serial from Rustam (go Rustam!) or buy a new hard drive.
I found a comment on another forum (can't remember which one) that said in this situation (ie Master Password unlocked, HDD locked) if you instal a new HDD this may become locked. I was under the impresssion that locking/encryption data was stored on the HDD, not on the MoBo. Anyone heard this?
I'd hate to buy a new HDD and end up in the same situation!

Nope doesnt happen, the drive can be swapped quite safely and the password will show as unset in the BIOS.
As for the unsupported type I will investigate a bit further and add a list of supported drives, thanks for the info

Oh great Guru Rustam, my story is not an orriginal one but I hope it will be worthy of your help. I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 1100 that the current owner took as colatteral for loaning the previous owner some money to travel out of the country. the current owner says he saw the previous owner working on the laptop several times so either this person knew the password or there wasn't a password untill the laptop was handed over in exchange for the cash. In any case, it would be nice to get a password so this trusting sole can at least make use of the laptop. It's Service tag # DNKBM51-A95B. thanks in advance for your help.

Hi guys, hi great Rustam, i really wonder what is the trick behind your answers man... or simply if you're an angry Dell employee ?
So here is my story.
A friend of mine don't know anything about computers, he actually work in a bakery shop and one of his customer convinced him that he need a laptop to work, he ordered a big cake and then he sold him a brand new Dell Latitude D610 for too much money... Of course the laptop was discharged when my friend got it and when it was ready to boot, the seller was far away... There comes the grey screen, the bios password and... a cake for nobody.
My friend just promised me to make a giant cake for my birthday at no cost if i can unlock his brand new and... "fuc**ing useless" laptop :-)

Ok, so you say you forgot your Windows administrator's password, huh? Oh well, it doesn't really matter if you did or you just say you did. The fact is that you need to gain access to a computer and you cannot "remember" the administrator's password.
How can you get out of this situation without formatting and re-installing the operating system?
One method of gaining access to the system is by trying hard to remember the forgotten password, or a password of another user which has the same level of administrative rights. However I don't think this approach will help you, otherwise you wouldn't be sitting here reading article, would you?)
Another method is by trying to restore a backed up System State (in Windows 2000/XP/2003) or a ERD (in NT 4.0) in which you do remember the password. The problem with doing so is that you'll probably lose all of the recently add users and groups, and all the changed passwords for all of your users since the last backup was made.
A third method might be to install a parallel operating system on a different partition on the same computer, then use a simple trick to gain access to the old system.
P.S.
BIOS password , can removed with , remove that baterry for 10 min , then put in place from where is , onto the motherboard

Yeah. A BIOS password on a laptop is non-erasable using such a method since it is on a EEPROM chip, which is (as the name says) Read-Only. It can only be done by shorting this chip or by erasing the data using UV or a software program. And most of the tips posted by sovindustry are completely useless since they don't relate to the BIOS password at all. They don't solve anyone's problems so please keep such thoughts to urself before posting useless comments like these sovindustry.

From someone who has much experience with this, the post you made is a complete waste of time, you post a post and you dont give answers, I mean come on is there a point ?.
3 ways to get past an NTFS password
1) reinstall, easiest by far
2) use a linux boot disk available at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
3) slave the drive to a working machine and delete the sam file found in..
c:\winnt (or c:\windows) system32\drivers\etc
This will clear all account passwords and will allow you to log onto windows as administrator with a blank password.
Oh yeah there is a fourth, to use a program called L0phtcrack, it is a good prog and works but can take anything up to 4 days to find the password.
See now thats a useful post...

Are you getting the infamous Grey/White Screen asking for a password on boot? If not and Configure Setup is Disabled in BIOS on the Password page, go to this linked site and download one of the DST files depending on what peripheal drives you have and the state of your boot order.
There is a last ditch way of running the DST File by using a DOS Only bootable Harddrive and a program for making that plus instructions. The DST file will delete and reset your Service Tag and during the process will erase the Passwords stored on the EEProm Chip with the Service Tag.
This is NOT a way to get through the grey screen though, but there are instructions there for that also.

Hello,
I am doing some work on my friend's mother's computers. Her two laptops are both Dell Latitude CPx's that she bought from Boeing Surplus, and both have a master and admin password. She has forgotten the password, and my friend (whom was being quite defiant) won't tell her the passwords - he "forgot" them. I am hoping that rustam_ would be able to help me with obtaining override codes. She has the receipt for both of them when she bought 'em, but Dell doesn't believe her (they really need to work on their Customer Service). If that isn't possible, I am going to go out and buy myself an old Dell (I know of where I can get them) and try the instructions on Paragon33's website. As these two computers aren't mine, I'm sure you can see why I'm hesitant to take them apart. I understand that rustam_ doesn't come online often, so if anyone else can be of help (i.e. those who he's helped), it would be much appreciated. There is no hurry, but I hate having to wait to get a job done (I'm sure some of you can relate).
Currently only one Dell will boot, and here's the -595B number:
#8IDA9**-595B
Service Tag: 8IDA9
When I am able to get the other to boot (it is having trouble recieving power), I will provide that information.
Thanks for the help here, I've enjoyed reading through the various threads on this site.
Edit - I swapped the hdd's, and the second Dell shows up with a hdd password error. I am guessing that it doesn't have a master/admin if it's gotten past that. Here's the hdd specs.

Help. I bought a Dell Latitude D600 from e-bay.
When I booted it up, I got the page :-
Harddisk #357K3KUEHPH-595B
The System Primary HDD is protected by a password authenticated system...
Calling Dell was futile... I almost given up.
There is no way I can trace the original owner now to do a transfer...
Anyway, by talking to Dell, it seems to suggest that the origin of this notebook was suspected...
Anyway the Service Tag :- 8LLYB1S
Express Service Code :- 18720920944
It is pity that I got to leave it in this unused state.
Is there any kind soul out there that knows how to obtain the master reset password ?

Download the boot disk or CD Iso from my site and use it to reset the service tag, once done the Admin password will clear and you can reset the service tag and this will allow you to set any password you want.

Hi Rustram, I hope you can help me & would be eternally gratefull if you could. My story starts with a lightening strike killing my sons laptop. As he needs this for his schooling, it was devestating. So I bought a second hand Dell Inspiron 8100, as I am on a sickness benefit (cancer), & everything was working fine. Then my son in his infinate wisdom decided to Password protect everything & forgot the password. So we are now locked out & have no access. Tried Dell, but as It is second hand & the previous owner is overseas now, they denied me any help. Tried the "Paper Clip Method" & Yes I do get the "Manufacturing Mode Level (FF)" screen, but Fn-X does not clear it & it goes back to the grey screen. I have tried HUNDREDS of times & can get the MM screen everytime, but still no Fn-X.
