Modem AC'97 recognized but no sound

Hi everyone!

I had some problems with Ubuntu 5.10 recognizing my modem, cause it's Agere Systems AC 97 Modem, a so called Winmodem.

I installed everything needed with help of many forums and now the modem is recognized but because there's no sound any more there's no DIALTON and there's no NET!:(
Earlier I had the sound. Maybe the comand set-default-soundcard did something unwanted, but now the only sound I get is beeping when I use the arrows.
BTW On other partition with WinXP the sound is perfect like always.
I'm an apsolute beginer in Linux (and bad in English, sorry, not from here), don't know how I got so far at all.

Is there help for me?
