nickslick74 07-20-2006, 10:24 AM This is quite a bit sooner than I expected since the Conroe's haven't even come out yet.:giddy:

swker98 07-20-2006, 11:08 AM will this be for am2 or am3?
nickslick74 07-20-2006, 11:35 AM Not sure about the AMD side, but for intel it would be for LGA775.
AMDIsTheBest010 07-20-2006, 01:05 PM they already have quad cores
the new Powermac G5 from Apple, has a new model for 2006:
The Quad-Core model, it run at 12GHz b/t all the cores.
vnf4ultra 07-20-2006, 05:41 PM they already have quad cores
The Quad-Core model, it run at 12GHz b/t all the cores.
It's actually a dual dual core system(two dual core processors). I'd consider a quad core to be one processor with 4 cores.

But you are correct, the power mac g5 does have four cores. Quite a fast, and expensive machine.

It isn't really that new, they are actually supposed to be releasing a newer, better apple tower called the "mac pro" in early august according to rumor.
AMDIsTheBest010 07-20-2006, 05:53 PM ohh, i havent really been following apple that closely, except when i was getting prices for computer:)
...AMD

I was sure that the G5 had "four" cores... but I may be wrong.
Vodoo have a simillar machine, but if vnf4ultra is correct then it is'nt "four" core :(, but even more expensive than the G5

Read the specs on the "quad," straight from apple.
Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
Not sure which voodoo you mean, but since quad core's haven't been released yet, it is almost certainly a dual dual core system if it has 4 processing cores.
Hofstadter 07-22-2006, 01:06 PM ah i see, I was just wondering as I thourght that is was quad core, thanks for clearing that up.
And as I said, if the G5 mac is dual dual core than so is the Vodoo I was refering to, I cant think which it was know, but it was simillar specs to the G5.
Shizat 08-21-2006, 01:55 PM hmmm, sounds good, lets just hope its not Vaproware...
nickslick74 10-12-2006, 12:24 PM Found this today in THG (http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/10/11/intel_kentsfield/)

Hmmmmm, I was in an Apple store and the sign said quad-core. I knew it was phony!!!!
wolfram 10-13-2006, 10:21 PM Found this today in THG (http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/10/11/intel_kentsfield/)
Hmm. That looks good. But I still prefer a Core 2 Duo... Fast, less expensive, and consume less power....
nickslick74 10-29-2006, 09:07 PM MOre info on the quad cores. VoodooPC got some engineering samples and decided to benchmark them. They ran 4 instances of Prime 95 at the same time, viewed a DVD movie, and had several other programs open in the background and it still had 10% of it's resources left!!!. Also, at idle, you can remove the cpu heatsink fan and the temp hardly changes. While games aren't ready to run on these yet, the performance capabilities are incredible.
For refrence, most dual cores crap out with 2 instances of prime 95 running.
wolfram 10-29-2006, 09:10 PM WOW  4 instances of Prime 95 at the same time....
My CPU had a hard time running one instance....
Looks great, but it's far too expensive :unch:
nickslick74 10-29-2006, 09:13 PM But it may help bring down the prices of the C2D's. Their prices haven't hardly moved in a while.
wolfram 10-29-2006, 09:26 PM I'd love a Core 2 CPU. Even a Core 2 Solo processor, should be better than my current one :)
