Audio CD - noice between songs

I was trying to burn an Audio CD from wave files with Nero 6.6.1.4
the other day for the very first time. All seemed ok but later when
I listened to the CD, there was some strange noice between all the
songs, like something was loading in the background. It sounded
exactly the same in another CD drive, so it must be on the CD.
Why? It should be quiet between the songs.

My english sux, hope it's ok.

how about the original audio files?
do they have a gap of silence at the end and does it sound clean?
have you tried burning with a different brand/type (rewritables etc)?
have you tried updating the firmware on your burner?
do you check the 'normalise audio files' box before burning?

Thanks. It reminds me that I should check other CD's also but I don't have
such CD's available right now. There was no gap of silence on the original
files. But there was silence between all songs on the CD, except for that
noice. However, even if there was a gap of silence on each file I think the
noice would be there anyway. The drive: NEC DVD/RW ND-3520A fw 1.04
(the other one is a CD/radio only). I didn't see or change any settings in
Nero, everything looked fine but the result was still bad. I'm afraid that
something is wrong inside NEC ND-3520A. BBL.

you can try looking at the drive itself, apart from those suggestions i mentioned earlyer-
is the cables all pluged in ok?
have you tried cleaning the lens with one of those cd-lens cleaner devices?

Everything looks fine. But I know they've dropped the drive once
because a corner is bumped... I think I'll buy a new drive anyway.
Suggestions? Will I buy another NEC? There's a new version.
