Frequent sudden restarts

Hello everyone!

My recently (2 months ago) rebuilt pc keeps spontaneously restarting.
Its interfering badly with my work as a self-employed web developer working from home.

System as follows.

Up-to-date XP.
Abit ic7 (secondhand) mobo
P4 2.5ghz
Nvidia geforce 440
2 x maxtor sata HD - 120gb
4 x 512 mb ram (all same)

It all worked fine for the first couple of weeks but then started crashing and is now crashing several times a day.
Often crashes when using Fireworks with large files.

I have followed the recommendations in your posts;
Tried different ram - both chips and slots.
Tried different psu.
Run chkdsk
Re-set page file
Used speedfan to check temps/voltages
Uninstalled and re-installed every driver i could think of at least once.
Re-installing nvidia drivers seemed to solve it for a couple of days but then back to the crashes and a further re-install has made no noticeable difference.

.. and shes still crashing!

Please find attached minidumps.

Thank you for looking, I hope you can help.

Richard.

Have you recently installed any new software? If so then try reinstalling it.
Have you recently installed any new hardware? If so then check the drivers.
Always take these steps first for problems like this.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have recently installed lots of software and hardware - its a new system!
I have un-installed and re-installed everything I could think of but to no effect.

All the dumps are the same and have a bugcheck of 9C. You can find the error below and from this THREAD (with the same error), it seems to be a problem with the CPU.

MEMHIRERR - Memory Hierarchy Error {TT}CACHE{LL}_{RRRR}_ERR
These errors match the format 0000 0001 RRRR TTLL

Concatenated Error Code:
--------------------------
_VAL_OVER_MISCV_ADDRV_MEMHIRERR_89

This error code can be reported back to the manufacturer.
They may be able to provide additional information based upon
this error. All questions regarding STOP 0x9C should be
directed to the hardware manufacturer.

Ok.
I was suspecting that - simply because there seemed nothing left to check!
I will try swapping the cpu over and see what happens.

Thank you very much for the help.

Just to confirm , in case its any use to anyone, that it was indeed the cpu.
The only thing I hadn't swapped over!

Again, thanks to all for the help. You have significantly improved my chances of paying the rent this month.
