New Gaming Rig

I built this gaming pc on newegg, about $1,623, with shipping included. I was just looking for some advice, or possibly a whole setup that could save me at least a couple hundred bucks, and still allow me to play games at the highest, or almost highest settings. Thanks.

How about posting the components you have selected here, with links to each one as well as the price. Do that, and you'll get a lot more responses to this thread with suggested changes/ideas.

I was thinking that I could do with 1Gb RAM, and maybe a different mobo, and also maybe take the video card down to like a 7600GT.

I'll see what you guys think.

Looking like you have chosen some nice parts there! That would be an amazing system if that is the route you go.

You say you are wanting to play games on their highest settings. In that case, you wouldn't want to drop your ram to 1Gb, or go down to the 7600 series cards.

I know it would be amazing :D, the only thing its missing is dual 8800GTX's! But I could never afford that :( . It's just a little expensive considering I also forgot to buy a copy of windows, so that'll be about $100 more. I mean it's got that brand new 680i mobo, which I understand is extremely fast and very overclockable. Ad the new corsair XMS2 RAM, which is really fast too. Not to mention the 7950GT. I'll probably end up ordering these parts some time around Christmas because I'm sure there will be all kinds of deals going on.

Oh and real quick could anybody give me a few links to some nice gaming cases too. Something that will keep it running cool, and looks cool too.

Cases are a tough one to suggest, as they are such a personal thing...

Here's a good start: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/27/the_gaming_case_showdown/

Basically I like cases like these two, the Raidmax Saigata http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811156180 and the NZXT Nemesis http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811146009.

I also have read about these and understand that they have very good stock fans on them. Which is good, because when I play games on my computer it could last anywhere from 1-3 hours. So I'll need good air flow so it doesn't overheat.

The NZXT Nemesis is a cool-looking case. I really want it but I can't find it anywhere here. I'll probably order it from TigerDirect if they have it :).

Very nice , Im planning on going the same route.. lower vid car(7600GTs SLi) , till 8 series become cheaper, and 1Gb ram .

the hardest part is choosing what Chipset to go with. 680 looks promising.

what PSU you planning on?

So far I got a Thermaltake Soprano case, Thermaltake Big WaterCooling kit, and CoolMax 600W SLi ready PSU.

Montior wise going with a SAMSUNG 204B Black 20.1" 5ms LCD Monitor 1600 x 1200 Pixel Pitch: 0.255mm

BTW Time paradox that motherboard is not good at all , went too cheap on that. Full tower with a micro motherboard?:suspiciou

It doesn't matter if u use a full tower with an mATX mobo, as long as it gets the job done and/or u don't need more PCI slots. As for the chipset, the 680i is promising but expensive. I recommend the Intel 975X or the nForce 590 chipsets for maximum gaming performance but the P965 and the nForce 570 Ultra are good, inexpensive alternative to those.

I need help on choosing a good PSU. I was thinking about going with the Thermaltake Tough Power 650W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153034. But if anybody can recomend a PSU that is not too expensive and is going to be very reliable I would appreciate it. But from the way this one has been reviewed on newegg it looks to be a very good psu.
