For those that want a little fun, here's a free IQ test to keep you entertained. I just did mine. Prepare to be surprised. Its quite short with only 40 multiple choice questions, so it should take about 15 mins.

IQ Test (http://www.emode.com/tests/uiq/)

This reads like an advert because it was taken from an advert, but it is fun. Enjoy. :)

Funnily enough, I got 127 as well.

That's the top 7% of the people who have been IQ test, from what I just read.

I've scored better (tonight was not really caring anyway and had had a "yogurt" earlier... :) ) but that's what I got as well.

I got 131 and I kid you not, I'm smart but just lazy.

Heh, only half way through high school....

I was reading that 75% of the population has an IQ of 110 or lower.

Note : I'm not a native english speaking person so my IQ score may be lowered because of that :p hehehe

My IQ score is 131 :D

We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test, and according to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is Visual Mathematician.

This means you are gifted at spotting patterns — both in pictures and in numbers. These talents combined with your overall high intelligence make you good at understanding the big picture, which is why people trust your instincts and turn to you for direction — especially in the workplace. And that's just some of what we know about you from your test results.

Btw phant (for example), it would be cool to find some computer knowledge test that should give you some score after asking all types of questions, hardware, software, development, history, networking etc etc ... just an idea

Here are some stats about IQs, but from a french website

Here's a gaussian curve of the distribution of IQs

http://www.qiqcm.com/images03/statqi1.gif

65% have an IQ between 85 and 115
50% have more than 100
5% have 125
2% have 130
1/100 0 have 145
1/100 000 have 175

If you score above 100 you are above average.

I imagine almost everyone that posts here is above average.

Too bad that test is nothing at all like the true, administered IQ test, which is rather grueling.

I took the emode one ages ago... and it was pathetic. I find it just a little bit humorous, however, that everyone who takes the emode "IQ" test scores fairly high (>110). Makes ya wonder...

An IQ of 100 is supposed to be an "average" score, as DA's graph shows above.

Too lazy to take that test. The last three tests I took I got 120, 140, and I believe a 133 or so?

Went in the Marines when I was 17, and got a 68 on the ASVAB, and 107 on the General Technology portion of the test (113 is highest you can get) 99 is the higest that you can get on the ASVAB if I remember correctly. 44 is average on the ASVAB.

I couldnt even count the people that got sent home cause they were too stupid and got scores like 7, or 14 on the ASVAB the night I took it. It's amazing how stupid 80% of the population is.
Not counting the retards that drank all night before they were being shipped off, and when the breathalizer's were administered the next day they got sent home for being dipshits. The really pathetic part is, you KNOW they knew better and they sat there and laughed about it "oh I am so drunk! mannn I drunk 5 Red Dog's earlier".......

Never taken the SAT, but I've been to college. Tip for you. Dont listen to your teachers in High School. Just remember the questions on your test and get out as soon as possible. And no.. you dont need Algebra to surive in the real world. That was a bullcrap excuse. As is the rest of the BS that is spewed from teachers mouths.

I don't want to brag but I've just got to say that---

I hadn't eaten in 3 days when I took the test. If I would have eaten something I'm positive I would have made it even higher. About 1 hour ago I just finished a footlong from Subway.

I don't want to say much more, I don't like to brag, just thought I should add that.:D

I think I'm going to let my brain clear and let my mind sort of forget the test and I will retake it in about a month, after eating something, and see how high I can go.

I've got 131.
I'm no native speaker and had to guess a couple of times, but I have done quite a few of those tests. It's not a particular nasty one.
Only geniuses here, huh?

For comparison:
I usually score between 115 and 127. I've once done a serious - I'd call it - IQ test and scored 110 or something.
But again, at that point I had some practice and it was likely too high.
Btw, you forget about the age. That makes a huge difference at which scores are good and which are average.

Your IQ score is 122

This number is the result of a formula based on how many questions you answered correctly on Emode's Ultimate IQ test. Your IQ score is scientifically accurate; to read more about the science behind our IQ test, click here.

During the test, you answered four different types of questions — mathematical, visual-spatial, linguistic and logical. We analyzed how you did on each set of those questions, which reveals the way your brain processes information.

We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test. According to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is a Word Warrior.

This means you have exceptional verbal skills. You can easily make sense of complex issues and take and unusually creative approach to solving problems. Your strengths also make you a visionary. Even without trying you're able to come up with lots of new and creative ideas. And that's just a small part of what we know about you from your test results.

I'm a "word warrior". hehe.

I've taken these things before.. And it seems that they are not very reliable. Even very respectable looking tests vary so widely in scores. I get anywhere from 110 to 152 depending on what I take. Fun nonetheless, though.

I got 135, and 'Visual Mathematician' like some others here.

These tests aren't very reliable as if you've seen similar questions before then your score will be higher than if you hadn't. Most of us are good at learning from past experiences, and this certainly helps. Those that spend a lot of time doing quizzes/puzzles (not me, though I do like solving *real* problems) tend to be good at this sort of thing.

Still, its all just good entertainment, so have fun and don't take it too seriously.

XTR: As to not having eaten for 3 days before taking the test, well, we've seen your photo's and don't believe you. You're a non-stop eater judging by those pics. :D Besides, there is no time limit on that test, and eating usually makes you want to take a siesta (nap) rather than making you more alert. Still that's a pretty good score you got for someone your age though. ;)

126, and I'm a precision processor...

Not too shabby considering English isn't my native language, and there were a coule of proverbs I hadn't encountered before... :)

I wonder what'd happen if I'd chosen "no" to if I'd ever taken any scientific IQ tests before...

I don't think that doing that particular test under the conditions that we all have is very scientific.

I am sure that there are many people here who scored 125 or above who actually have IQs in the region of 140-170!

I've certainly achieved these scores before and there are plenty of guys here I know for a fact are just as smart.

Um I'm pretty sure that this age thing everyone seems to be talking about, thats included on how the scores are figured, as well as your education level. So if you are 15 and answer the same amount of questions right I did and I'll be 23 Saturday and have completed college your score is going to be higher than mine.

Yay... mine was 122...

We also compared your answers with others who have taken the test, and according to the sorts of questions you got correct, we can tell your Intellectual Type is an Inventive Inquisitor.

You have the unusual distinction of being equally good at math and verbal skills. This means you are a creative thinker and are uniquely good at teaching others through experiences. You are also a great improviser and very good at handling change.

I noticed that there are hidden questions in the test that judge more than your pure intelligence (i.e. math, verbal, spatial, etc) but also in your attitude to your mental abilities.

Its true that more intelligent, well read people know that, as they learn more, they realise how little they do know.

I kinda know what your saying XtR-X. I am never really hungry. I can go days without eating and not be that hungry still. Today the only thing I ate was a P-Zone from Pizza Hut around 4pm. Other than that I haven't eaten anything. Usually I eat once a day with a few small snacks.

SNGX1275

Sometimes when I'm really hungover (and I mean REALLY hungover) I won't eat the next day I'll just drink a bit of water. Then the next day comes around and I have nasal drainage in my stomach and that nauseates me further so I don't eat, usually by that night I can tell I need to eat cause I literally feel really weak and I'm extremely tired.
I try not to do that, but you know sometimes parties are bigger than you expected, and then when they are over and you are just getting back to your house you see some other friends that arent' half as drunk as you and they convince you to keep drinking with them.
Sometimes there is even a 3rd tier to this, in fact it just happened to me Saturday night/Sunday Morning.

But anyway what does this have to do with the IQ test this thread was about?

Seems to me I went there several years ago Nic and took their test and flunked! Which shows to go... On the principle that I never want to be limited by some one else's definition of what constitues intelligence, I do my best to only answer those IQ questions which I already have expertise in. Which explains why I'm a "dull normal". LOL

A high school graduate has a "normal" intelligence quotient anywhere between 90 and 110.
A University Graduate will "normally" register an IQ of 140.

On the other hand, having done an arduous four day testing marathon in the mid sixties at McGill University (no cheating there) the results flabbergasted even the testers. My IQ registered, to my chagrin, at 192.

I say to my chagrin because it meant to me that I could no longer "play dumb" and then was cursed forever with having to actually take responsibility for my life! And what 20 yr. old wants to do that!!! I wasn't impressed. I'm still not impressed.

Went through gazilion more testing - one has to be careful because the more one takes tests of these sorts the more addicted to playing the game it becomes and the better one gets at it - with equally depressing results. Joined Mensa and promptly resigned my membership a year later on the premise that being a member of such an elitist group was indicative of nothing much more than snobbery. And I ain't no snob.

I was one of those people about whom it was said: "You can be anything you want to be." Oh God, no! That's a terrible thing to say to any young person. There are more massive failures amongst the geniuses in this world than there are drops in the ocean. I say to you, in all sincerity, if and when you have children, never ever tell them "You can be anything you want to be." Heavy words to hang on anyone. So please!

Far more significant is the measure of one's EQ - emotional quotient. Therein lies the rub. For what is a high intelligence rating if one is an emotional cripple? Do tell.

Take it from one who has been there. :-)

poertner_1274
07-16-2003, 08:09 PM
Wow, well said Crybabytek. I think that is also true about people's EQ. How can you be intelligent if you are emotionally unstable?

That is some great advice. I commend you for making such a well worth reading post.

Phantasm66
07-16-2003, 08:12 PM
It was a nice post.

But I wouldn't mind seeing some evidence of those figures.... I am not entirely convinced....

Nic
07-16-2003, 08:38 PM
Those are very wise words Crybabytek, and I have to say that I agree with your assertion. Truth is, it is impossible to accurately measure one's intelligence.

The one thing that is certain, is that pressure stiffles creativity, and performance. Living up to others expectations can be very hard indeed.

I have always found that I do best when others expect me to do poorly. This is because all the pressure has gone and there are no high expectations to live up to.

Pressure causes the mind to lose it's focus and with this comes failure. Maybe that's why I prefer to remain in the background, working quietly away, and stepping in only when required.

As you said, it's not just IQ that counts, but EQ also (among other things). If someone has no desire to learn a skill, then no amount of study will make them skillful.

We all have hidden talents, and skills that are above the norm in one thing or another, and we should realise this and not be concerned about artificial scores on IQ tests. I've met some people that are quick thinkers, with IQs that are higher than mine, and yet they were unable to solve some problems in which I have succeeded. I also have my fair quota of failures, but I bounce right back again.

IQ tests show only that you were good with those specific questions, at that specific point in time, and do not measure intelligence. This is quite obvious as if they did measure intelligence, then the results would be consistent and identical in any set of questions regardless of what was asked.

This test is only meant to be some harmless fun, and not to be taken seriously. The types of users that tend to visit places like techspot, tend to be pretty intelligent as far as I can see, and thats one reason why they tend to be a well mannered and helpful lot.

Hope you enjoy your time here and stick around Crybabytek. :)

For a certain type of person, yes that is true.

But some other people find that, in the midst of stress and pressure, they are their most brilliant and most inventive.

Some people thrive under pressure, and even come to be addicted to it.

Well said Phant. I was actually doing some research on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) today and one part of the article talked about how stress effects some peoples performance but helps others. It just really depends on the person and how their brain reacts to pressure. This was also described as one of the very many symptoms of ADD. Though it IS normal for people to experience this. You wouldn't be human if you didn't experience a certain style of performance gain or loss due to pressure.

DigitAlex
07-16-2003, 10:50 PM
I discussed that stress / performance relationship with my biology and anatomy teacher long ago and it happens the graphic is almost the same as a gaussian distribution, that is to say

No stress > low performance

Max stress > low performance

Mid stress > max performance

Lots and lots of things follow Gauss ;)
