Ancient? Red Alert 2

I've seen a thread here regarding installing Red Alert 2 onto
a Windows XP Home Edition machine.

I've tried most of the solutions there. One of them was an incomprehensible list of stuff.....and now I can't find the thread any more.

Anyway....I've tried the Compatibility Wizard, and no matter what I do I get the same error message, the game won't install

"Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience"

Had exactly the same problem! The only cure i found was to set up a virtual machine with a windows 98 image!!!

The solution is quite simple, right click on the exe file and click on the compatibility applet and then choose Windows 98.
