I get the error message "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" when I try to open disk detector from the control panel..... also it will not detect when I install a CD in the drive.

have you installed or uninstalled any burning programs lately?

sometimes running scandisk will resolve the problem sometimes it wont.

I assume you are talking about the thing that comes with Creative's audio drivers. If you have updated your drivers lately, that may be the problem.

actually I just wired in a rewritable CD player and when I installed the nero express cd in the drive I realized it wasn't working.. tried music cd's also so it's not just the one cd
