WMP & Directshow will not load

Hi

I am new to the board, so please excuse me if I don't provide some necessary information or I am posting to the wrong thread.

Recently, I installed a Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110 (Keyboard & Mouse-to USB).

However, I cannot remember if my current problem occurred before or after this event.

When I have accessed some Web pages, I have received an error message telling me that Directshow couldn't load.
Additionally, Windows Media Player (and most of my Casino Gaming software will not display/run correctly) will not run... no error message, it just will not run.

I have installed WMP 11, updated DirectX to the newest release & downloaded the latest forceware for my graphics card ... but nothing seems to help.

I have used SiSoft Sandra to provide details as below:
MS XP Home Ver 5.01.2600
Intel 4 CPU 3.0GHz 1Gig RAM
MB: ASUS P4S800D
System BIOS American Megatrend 1012.003
Plug & Play Monitor (LG Flatron L1750SQ)

NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 256MB AGP (upgraded to 93.71 Forceware)
DirectX (upgraded to ver Dec2006)

I would appreciate any help with suggestions, running diagnostic software ... anything.

Thanks.

Ranthor

You need to download some video-codecs. On www.free-codecs.com you can find codec packs who contains the most video codecs. If it still doesn't search for a specific one.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I do have quite a few codecs, but I visited the site & installed XP_Codec_Pack-2.0.6.zip. Still nothing!!

I should have mentioned that I have other video/audio players with the appropriate codecs (GSpot Codec Information App., Power DVD, Real Player, VLC media player .. etc).

All my other players work & it is not a matter of me preferring WMP, but more a fact that this bug/conflict is stopping me from viewing some web-page contents and playing my online Casino games.

PLUS, it bugs the hell out of me when I have a program that will not work .. and I can't find out what the problem is.

All comments & suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.
