internet help

this g3 imac i have wont connect to the internet, the wire is good, the router that it goes into works (my a64 and win98 box internets work) and the setup assistant is pretty much useless/ unhelpful

its osx 9

im half tempted to call either linksys, netgear, or smc (since my network has a few of each)
