I think the games would have to have either a very linear or very complex plot for a (decent) movie to be possible. After all, the audience wouldn't be able to decide what happens next.

The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Syberia, Outcast, System Shock (1 and/or 2) could be interesting.

I think first person shooters don't have enough gameplay variety to make a movie out of - unless the movie is just endless shooting. The same with fighting games a'la Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, ... all outstanding movies, aren't they? :rolleyes:

Starcraft and Command and Conquer (only know the 3rd in that series). Both of those games have a signifant story line that is developed throughout the game. Although Starcraft would probably turn out about like Starship Troopers.

C&C3 has a little movie introduction with real life actors, even the hot Dr. Cameron from House.

I have never played Halo before, don't know what is the storyline but definately Diablo is one of my favourite game ever. I really like to see how my Babarian Whirl Wind look like in real life movie :-)

Halo and FEAR definitely deserve it, as do Prince of Persia: Warrior Within & Sands of Time for their outrageous action and excellent plots. But one game I was expecting to see there was Metal Gear Solid. It is as deserving as all the others IMO. Another movie-worthy title would have to be Warcraft III. Awesome stuff.

1) Star Wars: Republic Commando. Great game shows the military prespective from the clone troopers. It displays how the soldiers would give anything for there brothers. No jedi or stuff.

2) First Encounter Assualt Recon. F.E.A.R. Very creepy, and it has a good story.

3) The first two Master of Orions. Could be very good civication movie, with stuff like moral conflicts. Wars, corrupted leaders, and amazing Space battles.

4) Halo: Combat Evolved. I guess its okay.

5) And for number 5 well. Half-Life 2. I guess, best game I've ever played. I just don't think it deserves it as much as Star Wars Republic Commando.

I don't mind games being turned into movies such as Halo which from what I've been told is in development now, along with Far Cry and a few others, but you got to remember, movie directors "LOVE" to ruin them, just look at the movie DOOM, it had nothing whatsobloodyever to do with the game.

Think of the possibilities of how the directors can ruin movies, for instance, in Halo they will probably make the covernant mutated humans that work for a floating giraffe (prophets), similar to that in DOOM, mutated humans took the place for alien demon creature thingies. In Far cry, its set out in the tropics, a movie director may decide to make the movie in a desert, and in FEAR they may decide to make it 100 soldiers going rambo against a single super soldier.

All-in-all i really hope this doesn't happen, and shouldn't happen in Halo because I'm sure they are basing it upon the book. At one stage microsoft stopped the movie because of the thought it may be a lot different to the games and/or books and may get ppeople confused.

o really, than explain the 50 foot monster at the end of DOOM 3, and that freaky giant demon dog in HELL, are they mutated humans which have been mutilated??? I've played and finished DOOM 3 a number of times, I could be wrong, but for what i understand the demons ARE aliens that came from hell through a portal which we replicated from alien artifacts.

DOOM the movie was not based on that.

What??????, have you not played the game at all, the mutated dog in the DOOM movie was just a mutated human, idk what it is in the game, it doesn't say, but the lvl HELL since when do you think us human can stop 30 foot long demon that is pretty much immune to all human weapons. Not to mention, they didn't once even go to HELL through the portal, and once again not to mention that the portal in the movie was completely different to that of the games. and there is NO portal in the game that links Earth the Mars.

EDIT: F.E.A.R would be a good movie, so would Halo, and Far Cry (for what i here isn't looking to promising) Half Life 2 would be a great movie, Possibly Zelda and Metroid (not to sure about metroid, and Zelda seems a little to adventurous). I am sure there are other great games that could also become movies. My only concern is that if the movie directors ruin the movie they could potentially ruin the game for those who haven't played it before

I've played Oblivion before, but I'm not an adventurous type person, it bored me so much that i stopped playing an un-installed it. What exactly is the game based upon, for what I was able to gain from my 30 minutes of playing is that there a some sort of gateway that evil creatures can use to gain access to our world and cause chaos, and your job is to close the gateways. Besides, what kind of movie has talking humans who have a tigers head. OH, lol, i forgot there a several, my bad.

maybe the dog got the guy in the wheelchair? who cares, the game and the movie are essentially the same.. most games FMVs suck anyways, except maybe wing commander or FF7. the point is there aren't many games that are constructed like their counterparts (books/movies)..

somebody mentioned earlier the game would probably have to be linear to make a good movie..
A game such as WoW would have to be changed.. some sort of hero character(s) would have to be created and the plot would have to revolve around him/them and his/their encounters.. that would be the only way to make it succeed... so I dunno how many of you like WATCHING video games as opposed to playing them but many don't..

That is true for most game->movie adaptations. The original story is mashed up so badly that it's just rehashed into some typical Hollywood blockbuster. There is the odd exception though (Lara Croft anyone?). But most of Uwe Boll's movies suck. And since he's the guy working on the movie adaptations of Far Cry and the sadistically hilarious Postal (which is releasing this year BTW), you know which movies not to watch.

EDIT - Oh, and Wikipedia says that production was cancelled on the Deus Ex movie. Those ****ing bureaucrats!

Final Fantasy should definately be the game of choice to base a movie on. The first one sucked, but Advent Children is one of my favorite films of all time! Absolutely amazing!

But they should base it more on the games story, rather than taking the good characters and "Hollywood'ing" it up. Never the less it rocked. I hope more is to come.

I'm hanging to see some crazy summons like Knights of the round or SuperNova ... Sephiroth should have busted one out in Advent Children!

Meh, not really an RPG fan, hate the fact that all you do is spend 10 minutes (or more) to walk from point A to point B, and maybe fight 2 wolfs on your way. I'm more of a FPS where the action is 3 feet away from you, or Racer where you have to put you skills against others. and some Action Adventures.

Well, you don't need to walk in Oblivion. You could just fast travel. :)
As for the GTA games, Vice City was based on Scarface, so it would be pretty funny to see a movie based on a game based on a movie. ;) Check out Dave Chappelle's parody of GTA too on YouTube. It's hilarious! :grinthumb
