Almost none of my programs are working.

Everytime i try to access a program a small box comes up saying preparing to install but then it never intalls. It comes up with a message that says:

This patch package could not be opened. Verify that this patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that it is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

I am really unsure of what to do but my friend told me to reinstall a driver but i am unsure on how to do that.
Can someone please help me.
Thanks in advance.

Check out this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823). Try running the utility suggested in the Resolution section.

Regards :)
