COM port grabbing

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my PC to my mobile via a serial cable but, all of a sudden, I can't!

The maker of the communication software, Logomanager, say that it's because either my modem driver or Hotsync (used to connect a Palm handheld to the PC) driver is "grabbing" the COM port!

Also, Hotsync doesn't "let go" even when it's exited - the driver "holds the port", they say!

This seems mad! My modem is external and on COM1 but Hotsync is USB. However, it did start sometime after I installed a new modem and Hotsync

Could this be true?

How can I investigate it? How can I stop it?

Cheers,

R.

PS
My PC runs Win98SE

Older versions of hotsync release the comport OK..

You can stop HotSync from loading at startup, I suppose you can find it in the msconfig utility.

As for the modem, try disabling it in the device manager and then restarting.
