CD burning problems

I've been trying to burn files onto CD-R's and haven't been able to do so using my 3-year old NEC DVD-RW ND-1300A drive, on Windows XP. On Nero, I keep getting many errors: power calibration error, invalid write state, could not perform EndTrack, session fixation error, and could not perform fixation. I've even tried to reformat my own computer, make sure nothing else was running, and I've even tried to disable start up type but to no avail. All CDs and DVDs run fine; there's no problem with reading any CD/DVD. I used to be able to burn CDs in earlier years but I can't now for some reason...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: I plugged in a new external DVD-RW drive and it appears to work; any ideas on what may be wrong with my current DVD-RW drive?

Your old NEC is worn out...

if you can't afford to go out and buy a newer CD/DVD burner (i would recommend this) then you might have a firmware update for your drive, look at the manufacturers' website to see if it has any updates available

sounds like your drive has kicked the bucket.
