the sequence of events are:
load and config Win/* FIRST
config a second partition or HD to receive Lunix
install Linux onto the desired location
which will allow you to install a BootLoader (eg: GRUB vs LILO)

Thanks BlameCanada I didn't actually think of googeling it. :D
Does anybody know that when you partition the space for linux it doesn't get rid of all your saved things from xp right. It just makes a partitioned space for the linux?

carving a new partition from freespace on xp (eg Partition Magic) works well.
it does not WIPE the new area when formatting it, but the new layout is so
different, no one's going to get anything that originated from XP.
