Hi all I just bought a HP Pavilion dv6565ca, and I need XP on it, but alas I get the HD not found error, where can I find drivers for the HD so I can install XP.

Check on the left margin for software downloads. I couldn't give you the exact link because of the exact model you have. If I'm not mistaken, the model series is the dv6500 set. Additionally, do you mean to say that you need to load XP on it because it already has VISTA, or did you replace the hard drive? Or, did you run into a problem and have to reinstall the operating system?

I've tried Hp, they do not recommend installing xp on it, quite rudely actually. Sa far as HP concerned it is impossible to install xp on HP Pavilion dv6565ca and it's just the way they want to keep it

Indeed it came with Vista but this OS is not very compatible with autocads that I need to have running on it. So I need to wipe out Vista and do a clean install of xp. Otherwise the machine is working very nicely

You might have a bit of a problem then. If all the hardware is geared for Vista, then after a fresh install of XP, you may not be able to find the correct drivers for the rest of the hardware. You won't be able to use the driver utility cd that should have come with the notebook since they will be Vista drivers. And since it's an HP product, you might just have a really hard time (if not impossible) matching up the hardware with the XP driver since HP is the manufacturer. The graphics card (unless integrated) might not be a problem, and if it's a generic integrated sound chip (hopefully something like Sound Maxx or AC 97), you could also find those drivers. You'd have to do some searching to find the rest of the XP drivers for the other hardware installed. That's not a big deal, but if it's under warranty and something goes wrong and you're unlucky enough to have to ship it back, you may have just voided the warranty. Remember, any hardware parts (other than RAM and graphics cards) for notebooks can only be purchased from the manufacturer and their prices are INSANE.
Purchased a DV 2125nr for my daughter to use at college and the hard drive went bad. I run a computer shop and finding parts for laptops is next to impossible in almost all cases. The only place that had the hard drive was HP. If it wasn't under warranty, it would have cost $523 US. The manufacturers have anyone who purchases a notebook/laptop over a barrell since they are the only one who you can get critical parts from.

Problem:

Trying to get win xp onto dv6565us. No option to turn off native sata support in bios. Driver that HP first sent was not the driver needed for a fresh install aka the F6 method of adding the driver via a usb floppy. There first canned response is below at the bottom, and does not work for a fresh install. I am not really sure what it would work for.

Solution:

Found someone at HP who actually did their homework and supplied the following instructions with a link for a driver from intel which allows the HD to be seen. Just go thru the regular pain in the ***** process of F6'ing and adding the driver via the floppy. It appears to be the only way, but it does work, just formatting the drive now. We will see how much of a pain it is to get the rest up and running.

1. The file contains the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Floppy
Configuration Utility.

2. This utility will create a floppy disk containing the RAID driver
files for installation on a 32-bit operating system.

3. This floppy can be used to pre-install the Intel Matrix Storage
Manager driver during the F6 portion of Windows setup.

4. You needs Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 Operating System disc and the
USB Floppy drive.

5. After downloading the zip file in another notebook, you needs to
extract and execute the file. It will help in creating the floppy disk
that has the SATA drivers.

6. Boot with the Microsoft Windows XP disc and make sure the USB floppy
drive with floppy disc is connected to the notebook.

7. At the F6 prompt, select F6 to install additional drivers which are
not in-built in the retail Microsoft Windows XP Operating System disc.

8. When the prompt comes up to install additional drivers, insert the
floppy and select the correct SATA Driver. It is Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA
AHCI Controller.

9. Once that is done, the rest of the installation runs as normal. There
are only 2 drivers in the floppy disc that would work.

10. After the Operating System is installed in this manner you can
install the chipset drivers for the notebook from:

HP after installing the retail Microsoft Windows XP.

You can install SATA drivers on a Retail OS by following these steps:

1) Enter F10 Setup, and go to System Configuration/Device
Configurations/SATA Native Mode to Disable.
2) Install Windows XP Service Pack 2 in whatever manner is typical for
your organization.
3) Download the Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver, SoftPaq SP32478.exe,

this step. Run sp32478; this will create a floppy disk. The files will

5) These files should be located on the floppy disk.

6) Download and run the Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7,
SoftPaq SP32781, from www.hp.com.
7) In Device Manager, right-click the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers/Intel ®
82801 GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller and select
'Update Driver'.
8) Follow these steps to complete the Hardware Update Wizard:
a. At the first dialog, select 'No, not this time' when prompted to
connect to Windows Update.
b. At the next dialog, select 'Install from a list or specific
location (Advanced).
c. At the next dialog, select 'Don't search. I will choose the driver
to install'.
d. When prompted to select the device driver you want to install for
this hardware, choose the first one in the list: Intel® 82801GBM/GHM
(ICH-7M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4.

e. When prompted to insert the manufacturer's installation disk,
browse to c:\SWSetup\SATA AHCI Drivers\, and click OK.
f. When prompted to select the device driver you want to install for
this hardware, select the Intel® 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller

g. A warning that Windows cannot verify that the device is
compatible with your hardware will appear. When asked if you want to
continue installing the driver, select Yes.

h. The installation will complete.
9) Shut down Windows and restart the computer. Enter F10 setup when
prompted during the boot.
10) Go to System Configuration/Device Configurations/SATA Native Mode
and change it to Enable, then save settings and exit F10 Setup.
11) After Windows restarts, the additional SATA components will be
updated. A System Settings Change will appear. When asked "Do you want
to restart your computer now?" click Yes.

12) When Windows restarts, the SATA AHCI drivers will be completely
installed.

I have a DV6226US that I bought in March 2007. It has never been activated and is still in the box. It came with Windows Vista Premium but I want to install a Windows XP PRO Retail O/S that I bought last year. After reading several posts, I realized this would be too big a job for me to tackle without expert advice.

My Question: How I do I go about installing Windows XP ??? I need a step by step instruction on how to go about this installation, just like the directions that are given above for the 6565 model. Will these same instructions work, or are they different for my model ???

I have been to this HP link for the drivers, but seems like there are things I need to do first before I download these drivers. (Disable the SATA Native Drive ... etc).
