I have an NEC laptop. Its been charging on the mains for a few weeks constant. While it was charging, i had used it several times but now it wont switch on.

I can hear the fan and a green light is there but the screen shows nothing.

Any ideas?

Remove the battery and run it only off the mains. See if it starts up

i dont know if this info helps - the cd rom opens fine, but the lights on my USB mouse dont turn on.

Hi,
Question....
Did the battery get rather hot whilst on a two week constant charge? ;)

Have known batteries to get over cooked, even when removed a direct power feed won't always allow boot up from direct dc feed.

Know anyone with a similar battery from a similar maker (laptop/model) to borrow that hasn't been in the kitchen [sic]?

try the substitute if poss to eliminate battery damage. If still doesn't boot, suspect other internals at fault. ;)

mr_newbie, i'm afraid, that you can't repair it.
do you have a mini-pci post card?
