Problems with LG Super Multi DVD Rewriter 20x GSA-H55L

Hi,
I just upgraded my PC and installed a new DVD drive. Everything is working great, except for when I use the DVD drive to install any of my programs. The installation disk works for a few mins, then my screen will scramble and the computer will not do anything. I end up having to restart my pc. This even happens when I try to install the disk that came with the DVD drive.

My hubby thinks the problem is we have the HD and the DVD on the same cable. The HD is master and the DVD is slave.

Any suggestions or comments?
