my gateway solo 1450 laptop will all of a sudden just not turn on. When i either put in the battery or attach the ac adapter it will not turn on when i press the poer buton, not even responding at all. THe charging light will not go off and it is always a redish orange color. Has my motherboar been fried? thanks

Did you get the warning about the battery is low when it died. If yes then you can have a faulty ac adapter or dc jack problem tell us more how your laptop died. You can do two tests your self try to find somebody with same ac adapter or a charged battery.

I still recommend those two tests if you can get to a charged battery and another ac adaptor. If those two tests fail to power your laptop, then you can take it to next step. Eliminating removable parts like cd-rom, HDD, memory, anything could get faulty and cause a short and not boot completely. I have seen that before as well. But this is when you get some activity and everything stops at one point. This in your case is not really applicable. Those two tests should be the first thing for any laptop to eliminate the easy stuff what are very common problems. In my personal experience I have seen ac adapter with perfect voltage, but watts were missing. These days the laptops got to get exactly power they been design for. So it could be short of power or it could be worst internally your laptop is shorting out on the motherboard and it will not work until you get it fixed.
