What do you want to do with the network?

If you want to share files, install Samba-client and Samba-server packages on the RedHat system. Accessing Windows shares is pretty straightforward. Sharing files and printers from Linux is a bit more of a hassle but nothing too spooky.

Linux will use the shared internet connection if you set the gateway IP in Linux to point to the XP machine. You need the IP that is given to the network card that connects to the Linux box.
