Can't get passed the bios password, tried all the ones I usually use and variations thereof..no luck.

Its a Dell Inspiron 700m
Service Tag: 82PBB71
Express: 17577709165

This model seems to be an odd one since I've found nothing specific in the way of a procedure to reset the bios password.

Hopefully one of you will have a solution.

yes, if you tried to generate password as D35B or 595B, it should not work.
for inspiron 700m password generated by another way.
Ask dell :)

Did call Dell about this. Will cost me $100+ that I don't have handy. Besides, this is a good challenge and I believe there's a solution (with a little help...I'm no electrical engineer, just persistent)

I took the laptop apart in search of a programmable ROM for the bios. Did a Google search on the chips that weren't obviously power related (resisters, caps, etc).

I found the ATMEL TINY12, its an eeprom located next to the CMOS battery. I felt pretty sure this was it (can't post link to ATMEL's PDF because I'm too new, I'll post the link in a different post)..

There are instructions on how to reset the chip but want some reassurance before I do that. I mean, what exactly would be reset? Just the user data or everything?

I'm hoping to crack this one, from all my research I've learned that the 700m is a bear and nobody has defeated it yet. I've called 5 businesses on the phone that do bios resets on laptops..they are very vague about it. Since its difficult its getting ignored for easier problems. I probably would too, but I'm not ready to quit.

Anything you can offer is appreciated,
DT

I don't think it matters to have a service tag or not. the hdd password will not go on its own. you can download the dst cd and set a new service tag with it. if the hdd is your only worry then buy a new one and enjoy life...

good luck

they claim "any dell" and "all dell" can be unlocked below $100. I dont know what is the business you are called.

why don't you ask your "boss" for the password? if he can't tell you then he sold you a $500 doorstop. give it back to him and get your money back.
well razik... somehow I knew that not all money spent on passwords is worth it.

Hey guys, first of all good luck to everyone on your endeavors. I called dell about my problem and they want you to transfer ownership. Now if the laptop is stolen, your screwed. If not then you can do this. go to support dot dell dot com. click on customer service link on the left side, then click on transfer ownership on the left side. here you can transfer ownership. The tech guy said it should work no problem. He said he did it with his and it took about 3 weeks for the confirmation email, he believes it dragged because he worked for dell and some red flags were raised, delaying his approval, but the site says it should not take more than 5 business days. After you get the confirmation email then you can call tech support and they will assist you in removing any and all passwords including HDD. In the meanwhile, while I myself wait, maybe someone can help me service tag DQZCQB1-595B. I have done extensive research but cannot find a program to generate the password. I only found one for laptops with extension d35b not 595b. Only methods that seem to work are transfering ownership, spunlock dot com and shorting method. goodluck to all.

Lobo1225
01-27-2008, 08:55 AM
I forgot, when you transfer ownership, if you do not know the previous owner information, type "unknown" in the fields.

raybay
01-27-2008, 09:45 AM
No, our experience is that most Dell transfers of ownership take 21 days as a matter of policy... whether you know the previous owner or not. But it is otherwise trouble free.

Whether you can get the password straigtened out, or not, remains haphazard at best.

My sister bought a dell Latitude D620 at computer show.. to replace the screen on her damaged unit.
The ting is this unit is in an overall better condition than what she has .so I attempted to restore that unit and realized that it is password protected and we are unable to get any further, the man at the computer show said he bought it in an auction and don't no any password..
Is there any other way to reset to get around the password.
PS: I have the service tag #

Any assistance is appreciate I would prefer to restore this one and scrap my sisters instead..

thanks in advance

for any new dell laptop unlock, plz contact me.
I would be willing to shell out a few sheckles for the unlocking service. But then im faced with a possible locked HD issue that id have to shell out more for. Now if i could have them both done for $100. I would do it. But im not spending any more on it. I have already thrown away $600 to buy the laptop and approx. 28 hours of time researching the solution. So as the situation goes ill throw the stupid thing in my closet until such a time that the solution is made readily available. And people are not charging an arm,leg and left nut for the simple generating of a key. the model of the lappy i picked up from an electronic resale shop is D630 it is also a 595b service tag. the owner of the shop refuses to take it back, insinuating i set the password. dell will not transfer ownership because i have no information on previous owner. so i made a bad descision. its no bodys fault but my own and ill take the bullet. but im not willing or ready to be reamed again by shelling out cash for a service that is (probably) not going to be a secure process. meaning i have a chance of being ripped off again. final conclusion to this issue. Do i want to unlock and use the laptop = yes. Do i need to have it = no. So the simple answer is i will be patient and probably wait a year or 2 to have a newer laptop. as of now i have a pentium 4 hp laptop that gets the job done.

It is wiser not to PM, but to post here

Possible you could generalize the question here at least - before PM

ie Where to find unlock key
Is there costs usually involved
What are the proceedures generally
Can I PM you about...

Generally most dislike the PM option, (otherwise the member may get hundreds!)
If it's within TOC post questions here.

Well from my understanding there is a program used to generate a master key. A keygen of sorts.... Other than that shorting or changing the EEPROM is a suitable way to remove the password. Some newer dell models have different EEPROM and have no way to short as of yet! Unfortunatly i have one of those models! The next thing in question is paying someone with the master keygen to pass along the unlock key! That being done you now may have a hdd lock inplace where you would have to divy out more shineys to get the key for it or find some other way to unlock it. I have heard that this HDD lock can be done with certain software. But have no knowledge on if its actually true. All in all this dell password issue brings mixed results to alot of people. The only thing that is sure to work is the master key. Seeing as how thats the Option that is working the best i would have to say pay someone to have it done and hope that there is no hdd lock. In wich case you would have to start all over to seek the means of unlocking it. Hope this clarifies some things for people.

The dst floppy or cd should take care of most of your problems with dell bios passwords. If not all you need to do is short the bios battery connector pins and reboot to the dst floppy. This unlocks the eeprom for reprogramming.
Google the dst floppy.
