raybay, you'll be surprised, that there's way to remove IBM passwords without disassembling laptop, and moreover without any manipulation with MB. this way yo remove passwords is RFID channel and special hardware and software :)

Bios C840

Hello
I have 2 laptops, latitude c840 dell. Both are secured with bios password. I've tried everything I've found on the forum: I've localised eeprom (it is under CD drive). I've tried to reset chip with using shorts 3/6, 3/5 and 4/6. I've also tried Paragon33 metod with gator, and tried short 5 and 6 pin to grount. Unfortunatelly it is give no positive results. I've read on one forum that it is possible to cut power to eeprom (8 pin) and I did it in one of my laptops... well the result is i've unlock the comp, but it didn't see HDD and CD.. Pls help me if you can. PLEASE!

Thanks.

you need to go into bios and see if there's an exclamation point (!)in front of hdd and cd. i'm 99% sure there is. press "ins" key, and the exclamation point will disappear. this is what happens when a pc is bios locked. the hdd and cd is disabled. you have to re-enable them.

the only way to remove the password is to "read" it from the eprom. maybe you can elaborate on this new technique by way of RFID.

Generally, not possible to happen without keyboard action or fingerprint action.
Darn near impossible to fix on a Thinkpad without replacing the Motherboard.
Met a lot of people who claim they can do it. Nobody has actually produced, that I have heard about.
Good luck. Let us know if you get a reliable source.
Try calling IBM
If you are a registered owner, call 1-(800) 426-7378 and have handy your serial number, type number and relevant part numbers or look for IBMSERV.
you should check your facts again. the password CAN BE read from the eeprom. people do this every day. IBM wants $1,100.00 for a motherboard for a pc that's worth $150.00
here's a stater for you: www.password-removal.com

No, Mr. Snoobs, this is not right. Password removal is machine by machine. Each model can have a different password hardware and software system... Several models may be similar, then you might have the next model that is different... and it varies widely to very widely by brand and model.
Shorting out some chips worked once on older models, but those could usually never be passworded again. Others, even adjacent Dell models, can not be shorted out.
Newer systems require a EEPROM programmer with a knowledge of how the system password works. There are many Dell and Lenovo brands that cannot be fixed by a normal human being once the password is there, unless it is done at the home base of the manufacturer.
It is as much a matter of luck as anything.
Dude,
you're giving wrong information to people. the eeprom chip CAN BE read and the password can be revealed. no need to call IBM. you may want to read up on this eeprom reading subject, because you seem to be giving the wrong info. check this one site: www.password-removal.com

WRONGGG!

A quick fix is pretty much impossible... perhaps finding another person with a D620... or talk to Dell.
Unless you are the registered owner, Dell will not help, and it takes about 21-30 days to get registered.
The Dell Latitude D620 is a difficult password fix.
Suggest you read through all the Dell password messages on this TechSpot forum, and there are at least 800 messages... in there somewhere, there may ba a clue, and there may be a person who can repair it... but you may have to ship it elsewhere to get it done. The answer, if there is one, is somewhere in our log of Dell password messages.
You may get lucky, and have the one or two experts who can fix it read your message and contact you.
A fix from a professional service will cost as much as $450... Best place I know of is in Ontario, Canada.

YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THIS ONE: www.password-removal.com
it's nowhere near $450.00 and they're located in USA.

unfortunatelly, there's no exclamations before drives in bios, I can't activate them, I think this mother board is lost. But I have one more question, what to do with secon one, which has a password too. I can't reset eeprom memory and remove service tag in any way..

I have locked up my Latitude D505 some 4months ago. (teenagers in the home) I was going away to work but I totally forgot what I had entered, eating a little crow!!
i keep getting a invalid pass. I have contacted Dell, but because I bought this from the employer now sold to a new company they won't help me.
if someone can let me know on what to do I would greatly appreciate it. I see everyone posting the system #. Don't have a clue what to do.

Hi Guys,
I'm new here, hope to get some help.
I bought a used Latitude D630 from someone on a trading website. I was told there is no more warranty from dell. I couldn't see any service tag sticker n can't locate it on bios. Everything is fine, but service tag was stated as PUNKY31.

I understand there are tools to rename the service tag, appreciate if someone could email me the tools: email removed

Thanks.

NO.
t60 uses a different technology. a different device is needed to read the password on that one. ibm went back to the eeprom chip on the t61 model.
cheers.

it's referred to as pc8394. if you know what i mean.
T43, R52, T60, R60, Z60 and x60 use
Winbond PC8394T-VJG, the super I/O chip with TPM functions.
a different method is used to read these guys.
cheers

svctag and Asset.com may help you.
I posted them here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/post574124-132.html
Using asset /? should show you lots of uses, like Asset /o for owner tag

Just read the post, also going here: http://www.download.centre4service.com/home.html (also in the above link)

But I'm not sure what you can change the service tag to, if you don't even have the sticker.

There is a lot more info here, mainly regarding password removal:

Ok today my xbox 360 got the red ring of death so this has given me more time to look into other things.

My family was given the Latitude c610 from a family friend who works for some sort of business, which type isn't important. Anyways the company likes to give out laptops and old equipment for charity and yada yada yada. So the bottom line is that I have this laptop.

I have a younger sibling who abused the crap out of it. They downloaded enough stuff on it to actually break it. Now I know nothing about computer tech support so bear with me. My dad brought the laptop to work and talked to an IT guy, now keep in mind that my dad is deffinantly not smart when it comes to computers so the answer I got from him was...."The guy hooked something up to it to look at the harddrive. He said that we downloaded so much stuff that it deleted some of the important stuff to run the computer." That's all I got. Now being me knowing nothing about computers decided that I should try puting a Dell Re-installation cd into it. What happens is it gets to the part where it says "Installing Devices" and "34 minutes remaining" and it just freezes. I can leave it on for hours and it just stays at this screen. I try taking the disc out and it just asks for the disc back saying that it needs to continue the setup, but it just keeps freezing at that point.

If anyone has any questions or ideas let me know. I really want to get this fixed as a basic note taking laptop since I am taking classes.

Why was this moved to this thread?

to remove password, you must obtain master password, which generates from service-tag of the laptop.

Hello to everyone in TechSpot,

I bought a Dell Latitude D620 series, BIOS Revision A09 with a system or administrator password thinking it was easy to bypass. With hindsight it was not a cool move.

I have tried to search for a master password remover unsuccessfully; I have even tried downloading and booting with DST-CD, but the laptop doesn't allow me to boot from CD. Any how,

Service Tag: #545GG2J-595B
Express Service code: 111-349-417-87

Can anyone help by providing a master password, Thanks in advance for the compassion.

Hi I have poured through many of the suggestions and or solutions to the dell authentification problem.. My laptop was aquired after being disgarded at the dump two of them actually. I have no use for them but it seemed like a challenge to try and bypass this authentification system. moreover i decided to give the laptops to my son and his grandfather as they can make good use of them. well I have tried to jump the cute little chip using the paperclip method but unfortunitely after about a hundred tries I have given up. I guess either using them as paperweights or asking all of you are my only remaining options... I really enjoyed the challege so far but Im thinking strongly about using a hammer to fix the problem... any assistance you may offer would be great.

Thank You in advance! Noahsdad
