Thanks Obi for the link on shorting. I took the 1300 laptop apart and found the eeprom chip. When I short pins 4 and 5 I can get the FN-X message on the screen probably 40 % of the time. When I do get it, I can't do anything using FN-X or F2 on the keyboard. If I hit esc or just let it time out the grey screen asking for the password comes up. I even tried rebooting when the FN-X screen message appeared and it went straight back into the grey password screen. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks again in advance...

It's a laptop not something to hold for sentimentality.
Use any means necessary to remove the password

Yes I'll admit, I was once like all of you, poor defenseless password seekers, but I overcame and got my laptop unlocked in two days, FREE OF CHARGE. Just trying to give you guys some advise, so that you don't run into the brickwall of dell customer support. Just trying to direct you to the best possible way to unlock your machines, hardrives and transfer warranties hassle-free, invoice-free, and free-of-charge. Beyond this I understand that some people are willing to pay if all other methods do not work. Trust me guys, i'm not that stupid, and I searched all over the internet. From what I know not all models work with the shorting method, 595b service tags do not have a current password generator, only d35b, there does exist a service of under 100 to unlock the bios gauranteed (no HD unlocking-you would have to purchase a new one if it is locked), BUT the best method is to do it through the dell website!!!!!!! I did it, and it took me two days. I can help you here, since its free of charge, and it took me two DAYS - no faxed invoice, or begging customer support. One of the dell tech guys told me of this backdoor to quickly transfer ownership, and beyond all of this. If dell doesn't work, then the only method would be shorting and costly method$. All I can offer is guidance, you make the decisions.

dbpk,
I also mean no offence, but a contact you gave me offered to unlock my laptop for a fee.
Although it is not stolen, he has no way of knowing this.
If you work for Dell, you should be able to help me unlock my D620 :haha:

Lets get real dbpk, stolen laptops exist, will continue to exist, have existed. Some people may unknowingly purchase one, from lets say ebay, a friend, you, me, my mother, etc... The point here is that they need to be unlocked. People who don't steal, but have in their possession a stolen machine can try to do it through dell as I did. Unfortunately my machine was stolen, but NOT by me. And the truth is I was able to transfer it to "another" name so that it may be unlocked. It's not nonsense if you have half a brain. It's called using your brain. This alternative exists, and yes I was lucky that noone called dell to report it stolen. But really lets say they steal your ipod, do you call apple to let them know? Get real people. Try this, and if it doesn't work then yes, there are services that will unlock it for a fee, looks like dbpk knows this too well, he even promotes it freely on the forum. Contact me guys, I would be glad to help you as I know the feeling of having worthless peice of plastic in front of my face.

Actually, strictly speaking receiving stolen goods is still an offence !
Lobo1225
02-06-2008, 09:34 PM
I apologize, I do not condone stealing in any way shape or form. The thing is some people may purchase stolen goods, as I did. Stealing is wrong, not the way to go, but for those who unknowingly purchase stolen goods should have some reprieve. Again for the record, I do not condone this behavior.

dbpk has NEVER supplied a password on TechSpot ever
He has helped by saying No or Yes to shorting methods (and that brief too)
He has also provided a link to Here (http://www.download.centre4service.com/software1.html) without password (This is a known link and known password)
If dbpk wants to continue to HELP these desperate board members, then I suggest he starts supplying master passwords, (maybe even just ONE)
Otherwise, to help out other members here.
dbpk DOES NOT SUPPLY PASSWORDS ON THIS BOARD
Your pleas and desperations and down right good of mankind - falls on deaf ears to him.
Why he posts here (or is even allowed to post here) is beyond me
I believe there is enough evidence here already, that he is not of good faith.
If he does not wish to Help on this board, then I only have one more comment.
dbpk DO NOT POST, UNLESS YOU ARE HELPING

If you did, do not wait for a response, just call them after a couple of days at this number,

And say you sumbitted an ownership transfer and wanted to know if it had gone through. They will simply ask you for the name to which it was transffered to.

but I don't this it'll work as the computer probably still won't boot. I think you best bet know is either doing the dell thing or purchasing a HDD maybe for around 60 on ebay. Nice, Nice on getting past the bios.
Also I think if you can take out the hard drive and connect to another computer through an external case or a simple adpter, you can use software from the manufacturer to unlock the HD. What type of HD you got?

You know when I searched Ebay, there truly was a seller that removes Dell passwords for around $5 As TechSpot does not condone making money from members questions - I put this to you as referece only. And to others spending $100 on other members emails !!! But their choice.
Note: I did Not put these profitering email addresses on post #130 purposely.
