Nvidia's drivers really slow down Vista's startup.

It takes about 27 seconds from boot menu to desktop, with the default Microsoft VGA drivers it took about half of that.

Vista Ultimate installed on Gigabyte i-Ram, 3 GB.

Yes, that's for an OS said to "require" 15 GB of free space :p

I still have almost a gigabyte left - well, I just installed this, just some drivers and Firefox added.

I have a second machine 1.8 Ghz P4 with 512MB ram (setup to autologon to Win XP home ) I have just timed it boot to a desktop connected to my wireless network doing an AVG update in just under 45 seconds

Cheers HSC

All in all, cost me £30, 000.

However i got a few g's off that because I know a bloke in the exec. chain off Dell.

As far as I know they are the only ones who do these sort of computer specs. Go build 1 yourself for fun on the site and see how much it is.

Wait, so what do you even need that kind of power for? :blackeye:

Wow.... isn't the Quadro card more of a workstation card though? Either way, though, 32 gigs of ram... And I thought the people with 4 gigs were way overboard...

mine's about 40 secs now from a power-off state...not bad for a machine built back in '03!

About 18-20 seconds from a cold boot to a fully-working desktop. Helped mainly by the Raptors I guess.

yeah, those raptors make all the difference in the world. my friend has got two of 'em in a RAID 0 system upon my recommendation, and it proved to be a wise investment.

Yeah so do I. It completely eliminated the annoying 3-second or something lag in Oblivion when it loaded new areas from the HDD. A question though, since I haven't tried, will it also affect the speed at which the drive defragments?

will it also affect the speed at which the drive defragments?seeing as how two raptors in raid 0 will have way better performance than the average 7200 RPM drive, yes.

Ok thanks. I guess there's nothing bad to be said about the Raptors at all! =D

well, nothing bad except for the price (my 7200RPM maxtors weren't my first choice)
