Unable to open the add or remove window

hi,

I have windows xp and am not able to access my add or remove programs window. When i open the window it says "populating .....the installed software" and then shuts down. there is no error message either. does anyone know how to fix this problem. I cannot remove programs i dont want because i cannot access that option since the window closes down on me.

Not sure why it won't populate the list but there are plenty of other programs that will remove software from your machine until you get this sorted.
