Dell BIOS Password Removal

Paperclip method doesnt work on inspiron 8100

I've tried this method on my inspiron 8100, but nothing happened.
Could someone explain this?
I'm sure I got the right eeprom chip. Under the cd drivebay, isn't it?

It works and you have the right chip.Short 4/6 or 4/5 but you must do it after Power On, not before, and at delay times of from none to as long as 6 seconds. Just keep doing it until you get a Manufacturing Mode screen. If the laptop shuts down when you short, you were too early; If it continues the boot, hold the short in place and see what happens. If it goes to the Grey/White screen asking for a password again, you were late with the short. I have cleared 10 Inspiron 8000 boards and 2 8100 boards using this technique, so take heart and persist.

[i bought this notebook dell d600 and i can't login it has a master password i cannot remove it.... if anyone could help me remove it would be very good..i dont have a floppy drive to boot from dos or anything...if someone could give me any software to remove this password... thank you all who helps me fix my problem

My Great Aunt recently passed away and my father acquired her laptop but when we powered it on it has a security password and we are not knowledgeable enough to take this thing apart so could someone please help us find out what is on my great aunts laptop. Service tag is 50vkc51-595b.

Inspiron 2200 locked - can Rustam help?

Hello, I'm trying to help a neighbour whose son has somehow locked his laptop and has just gone back to University. I suspect playing with it while under the influence of alcohol, but who knows?

He's a student at Nottingham university and the IT people there said they couldn't even look at it for at least a week, so his dad is bringing the laptop home tomorrow for me to look at (I "dabble" with PC's quite a lot).

From what little I've been told it's the hard drive password that is now on - could this be a virus or is it more likely a meddling user?
If all else fails I'll take the hard disk out and plug it into a desktop to see what I find - I have the relevant adapters.

Subject to confirmation of what I find; Rustam is this something you can help with and what information do I need to give you? If I can solve this, do you (Rustam) have a charity we can donate to?

For some reason I've got your answer that is dedicated to someone's else request (looks it's some bug in a system).
I've sent you a personal letter at .ru in Cyrillic describing the situation with friend of mine (the self proud victim of the "garage sale" :) ).
It's a difficult for him to be registered on this forum ("influent English with vocabulary" :) ) as well as he's a very shy person - that's a reason I connected you. If you'd prefer him to contact you personally - it's not a question, but it'll be in Russian only that this forum is not allowed (I've tried but was deleted - probably the bug is the result of it).

Whoops, should really be more careful with that TAB button there. Well it'll reset your CMOS settings to factory defaults and along with it the password. Don't worry, it's not a big deal at all, in fact I'd be surprised if the previous owner ever did more than set the pwd in the first place.
Just in case you don't know what it looks like, the CMOS(BIOS) battery is the little disk shaped battery slotted into your motherboard (mainboard for any pedants out there). It's like a watch battery almost an inch accross. To remove it simply lever it out carefuly with a screwdriver, don't worry it's not solered in or anything. If you don't see anything like a watch battery then leave well alone. Some newer boards have long life batteries welded into the board and if this is the case tearing it out won't help at all.
 
Sorry, should have checked the previous posts more thoroughly before posting that.
Is it the BIOS boot password, or the setup password that's set? Can you boot from anything other than your HDD?
 
If you do not want to read attentively this conference, I may do not want to answer you. You should give string which displayed on the screen like #xxxxxxx-595B, when password type in required. xxxxxxx-numbers and letters for service tag (7 chars) or HDD serial number (11-chars), followed by -595B or D35B. Other data such as express code or serial number which was printed on cover of HDD dont interested me. But without story of acquisition of trouble with this password I also can decide to ignoring message. Also, if you owner of laptop, you can directly address to DELL to acquisition password.

Hello again,
My neighbour has collected his sons laptop and I now have it.
It is indeed the hard disk password that is on, and it asks for the password to hard disk #l*l*l*l*l*l*-595B

The system tag is 6RQRT1J and the disk serial number is 3LE0PYY5 (that's a zero in the middle).

Rustam, can you help? If so, please nominate your favourite charity and we'll make a donation. Thanks in advance.
 
It seems as HDD or controller failed. Password here is useless. Check with another good HDD.

To be honest I don't quite understand what you are saying - have I given the wrong information? Can you explain a bit more please?

I saw a post where you asked for an 11-digit disk serial number, but I can't see anything like that.

I took the disk out and can read it in a desktop PC perfectly OK. Not a Dell PC though. Unfortunately I don't have another to try.
 
So, you have good HDD without password and defective laptop. Because #l*l*l*l*l*l*-595B is not correct HDD serial number, I cant help you. Give your laptop to near service center for repair or dismantle at all :).

Thank you very much for your advice and assistance.

Presumably if the laptop was working the password request would have a real serial number in it, not a display of repeated l* (or is it 1*?).
Sorry if I appear stupid, but I've never seen this before so do not know what to expect.

The laptop is relatively new so I expect the owner will send it back to Dell if it is still under warranty. He was looking for a quick fix (as we all are!) :giddy:

Final footnote on this one:
A bit of mild physical abuse (manipulation) of the case and it actually booted! Then a bit later it wouldn't. Then it would, etc.

So, it was a hardware problem - probably dry joint or badly-seated connector somewhere. Over to Dell.

Thanks to Rustam and others for helping diagnose the problem.

Hi, i was having a password problem with a dell inspiron 2200, system number 5NQRJ71-595B, service tag 5NQRJ71. Well I went to set up , to passwords (f2) messed around with setting and unsetting the passwords, everthyings is not set now, but i went to reboot and now have a problem. blue screen with message that says unmountable_boot_volume, and it wont boot. i haven't installed or removed anything, can any body help. thank you in advance.

With that model, you need to short after power on, not before, and with delay times that can vary from No delay to as long as 6 seconds. Use Pinset 4/6 or 4/5. If the laptop shuts down when you short, you were early; if the boot continues, hold the short and see what results. If it goes to a Manufacturing Mode screen that persists-success!
If it goes to a Grey Password screen again, you were late with the short. Repeat until you hit the SweetSpot where the boot is committed, but the passwords and Service Tag have not yet begun to load into BIOS. It took me 8 shorts and varying the delay times yesterday to clear a C610.
