Hard drive runing without conection to Motherboard,strannge

When i conect harddrive to power, and cable to motherboard will not spin
But when i disconect cable to motherboard, will spin strange help
 
There is a logic failure on the hard drive or the IDE port, or the cable is bad. Is the hard drive IDE or SATA?
