ASUS GeForce 9800 GX2 review

By now we can safely say that 400 million dollars later, the G80 architecture was good to Nvidia. First released in November 2006 in the form of the still quite capable GeForce 8800 GTX, this then new graphics architecture set an industry benchmark that was not met by ATI until very recently.

If the Radeon HD 3870 X2 is essentially two Radeon HD 3870 GPUs put together on the same PCB, then it is safe to say that the new GeForce 9800 GX2 is no different, with two GeForce 8800 GTS 512 GPUs slapped together on a single PCB.

What ATI should find scary about this is that the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 is significantly faster than the Radeon HD 3870, and so that gives us a good starting point to start analyzing the GeForce 9800 GX2...

Hmm a new Inspiron Laptop or a new Asus Gforce card

I know this is two totally different hardwares, but really these prices are getting outrageous, who's the market for exactly? I don't think it's for the kid playing games (unless we're taliking richy rich)

It's out of my league

Age of the average gamer is in the 30's now - and most of us have jobs Not saying charging $600 is right, but it's the same thing with console systems.

I've read in other reviews that it even blows away a HD 3870 + HD3870 X2 Crossfire configuration and gives performance nearly identical to two HD 3870 X2s in Crossfire, which is an impressive feat and IMO, justifies the high price.

Definitely is the new fastest performer across the board and the fact that you don't need a SLI compatible platform is a huge advantage as it was with the Radeon 3870 X2. It's price is somewhat proportional to the competition, and thus it's not for everyone at $600.

Just imagine how cool it would be if Nvidia had decided to break ATI's arms and released the same card for $500 instead of $600?
