How to get rid of Yahoo toolbar

Had everything set up and working nicely with Firefox (latest) and
Excite as my home page and email.

Tried downloading Yahoo email & messenger, god what a screwed up
intrusive invasive mess!

Now can't open Firefox at all.

Have uninstalled everything Yahoo but the tool bar still comes up when I
try to open FF and everything stalls and jams up.

How can I get rid of it so I can get FF back up and running properly?

Seems Yahoo just tries to take over the whole computer and change
everything and put all it's stuff as default, plus sell a whole bunch of
services and install them even tho I for sure don't want them.

Thanks!

Hmm try this:

Click "Tools" up top on FireFox > "Extensions" > Find the Yahoo! Toolbar extension > Select Yahoo! Toolbar > "Uninstall" > "Ok" > Restart FireFox.

*Edit*

Haha, with my amazing reading comprehension I failed to see the part where you said you can't get it open. Mmm, if you can't get it open perhaps you can salvage your Bookmarks and delete your FireFox profile?

You must have gone to the same school I did! :-)

Anyway, YAHOOOO! - just discovered something.

Was looking thru programs and saw FF, so clicked on it.
Gave me an option to start in Safe Mode. When I did so
it gave me some options, including temp disabling add ons
which I did.

Lo and behold it started without that pesky Yahoo toolbar,
BUT it listed the add ons and I was able to Uninstall it -
and then I restarted FF in normal mode and Voila! No more
Yahoo tool bars and no more locking up!

Ha HA - Take THAT Yahoo!

Gosh I love it when a plan comes together! :-)

A note for the future: uninstalling usually fails if a program started at boot and is running in the background:

You will need to make sure though that it does not start when you boot, or it will not allow the uninstall:

Start> Run> type in ''msconfig' without the quotes> Selective Start-up> Startup tab> uncheck the process that is for this> Apply> OK.

Reboot> Close the nag message that comes up after checking 'don't show this message again'.

Now do the uninstall in the Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs.

This isn't specific for the Yahoo Toolbar, but is a general statement for all uninstalls.
