Server 2003 - Creating desktop shortcuts for domain users

How do you create desktop shortcuts for domain users, ive searched loads of forums and tried the login scripts, group policies etc, but im not getting it right...

can anyone explain how to set this up ?

feedback would be nice cheers!

Not sure what you mean?

Umm go to explorer locate your Domain user through the network
Right click on the drive/folder of the User and select create shortcut (to your Desktop)

But I think you might be asking how to make Domain Users use Server based folders (like My Documents etc) actually I'm not sure what you mean, other than just creating a shortcut on your Desktop. (you can even manually type it)
Oh, they must be logged on and shared ofcourse

Sorry i didnt explain very well, i work in schools as a technician, im trying to set up shortcuts for programs on certain users on the domain... they log on as say "class1" or "class5" etc. just a quicker way instead of goin round each computer setting up the shortcuts

because certain classes only need certain programs...

i know you can use login scripts to do this like you can for mapping drives
ive seen this on loads of forums but cant seem to get it to work

you create a folder an share it say "logon scripts" for example... put your shortcuts in the folder....

copy the following into notepad:

copy "\\Server\Logon Scripts\Short Cut.lnk" "%username%\Desktop"

then save it as a ".bat" file into "netlogon"

and then link that to your user in activ directory

can you see where im going wrong ?

Hmm.. I was about to type exactly that into a reply.. What happends when you do this? Does anything copy at all?

Have you tried running this from the command line outside of AD login?
