Can anyone please help me?
My computer started displaying the Blue Screen of Death, immediately on start up. I didn't install any new hardware or software. I tried to restart in safe mode, but the BSOD came up at the same place. I also tried to restore to the last known good configuration, but the same thing happened, at the same place.
The BSOD said page_fault_in_nonpaged_area and the technical data said:
Stop: 0x00000050 (0x8B55FF8B, 0x00000008, 0x8B55FF8B, 0x00000000)

To make matters worse, I am practically computer illiterate, so please if you can help, explain as you would to a child.

Do you have the Windows XP installation disc?

I have a "Reinstallation CD for Windows XP Home Edition" it came already installed on the computer

do not reinstall windows. first this is almost always related to hardware problem.

download memtest and DFT from the link below. Burn each of the ISO image onto a cd then load DFT first and select ATA then run a full system scan post back the code it gives you back here. Then run memtest the same way as DFT let it run for at least 7 passes.

To be more specific on the Hardware problem it is normally Memory related or incompatible software for the 0x50 error, since it is when he starts the comp up it is most likely RAM.
So he should run Memtest86 first not the DFT, that is normally the first option to always suggest on 0x8E, 0x7F and 0x50 errors.

Also the HDD test you provided is specifically for Hitachi HDD's he might not have a Hitachi HDD since he didn't mention any specs.

I have this post pre set so every time I post it is in that order. But I would also like to see how the HDD is running so if you can still run that before or after. Thanks

I was not about to suggest a reinstall, I just wanted to know whether access to recovery an repair console was available? Isn't 000000x50 a possible rootkit problem also?

Yeah mpconne should run the DFT after Memtest86 because that would be the second thing i would suggest after RAM checks for this error. Still unsure as to whether the DFT will work or not because he might not have a Hitachi HDD but will see it might surprise me.

0x50 errors aren't associated with rootkit problems as far as i know, the most common causes are what i mentioned above in my last post. It is mostly Hardware that is the problem.

Thank you everyone for your quick replies. Unfortunately I currently do not have any blank CDs. I'm pretty busy at work so I don't think that I will be able to pick any up before this weekend. As soon as I do though I will try both the Memtest and the DFT and post my results.

What kind of specs would be helpful. I'll try to provide whatever I can. Just let me know where I can find them too.

another thing you can try is if you have more then 1 stick of ram remove one try the computer if it works then the one you took out was bad if it still does not work try the same with the other stick of ram.

Make sure to de-charge the computer by disconnecting the cable in back and then hold the power button for 10 sec

Okay, I bought some CDs and burned the DFT and MemTest files. I tried the MemTest first and then the DFT CD, but neither worked. My computer goes to the BSOD too quickly, before Windows even starts. I also tried the Re-install CD, but it didn't work either. I found a test by pressing F12 during the setup and this is what it said, along with some incredibly annoying beeps.

Then there was a picture of a box with a lowercase "b" in the upper left-hand side. I'm not sure if that will help anyone.

xxdanielxx, thank you for the suggestion of removing the ram, but since I am in-experienced with computers, I would rather not attempt anything physical for now.

How can I fix the RAM? Is there any tutorials online that you can recommend I follow? Also, is there anything that caused the RAM to go bad? I haven't touched the inside of my computer, or dropped it, or have done anything else that I can think of.

Well, if the RAM is really bad, and it seems like it is, you will need to buy new RAM and replace it yourself. The process is actually very simple, but if you are too unsure of your abilities and have plenty money to spare, you could always take it to a local shop. Do you know how much RAM is in your computer: 512mb, 1gb, 2gb, and so on, and whether or not you have multiple sticks, in which case, one stick may be bad while the other is good, and you will need to test each stick by itself.

RAM can usually just go faulty even though you haven't done anything. Also what is the make and model of your Comp we could help point you in the right direction for new RAM.

RAM is quite easy to install, when you open the case be it by screws or sliding it off (You would have to earth your self first by touching the metal part of a radiator pipe or anything metal that is on the ground to not cause any static damage to the comp), on the Motherboard the RAM is held in place by 2 clips simply push these away from the RAM and you can slide the RAM card out, and just do the same to put 1 in, slide it in place and close the clips.

Also note the configuration of the pins you will see little gaps in the RAM card and see areas in RAM slots to put it in place.

I have a Dell Inspiron (1520). The Dell Website says Maximum Memory 4096 and the number of slots is 2. I opened the computer and see that one card is in there. It says 2GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12 HYMP125S64CP8-Y5 AB.

I believe it is a Laptop, correct me if I'm wrong.
