I recently order 2 1G sticks of ram (DDR2 PC24200) from Crucial, adding on to the other 2 sticks that I have alread in my system. When I boot the pc it tries to startup but then I get a BSOD screen, but they are different each time. One I got was reagrding NETIO.SYS, then I restarted and got PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. So I try to do the start repair and it states that it cant repair issue. The funny things is though, if I select Start Windows As Normal it will work and I am able to get to my desktop with no issues.
So I took the cards out and restarted with my existing 2 cards and their were no issues. The cards are brand new so I don't think it's bad memory, maybe a bad file, or overheating, I am lost. Any suggestions? Here are my specs;

I aslo have a 32 bit OS, with 2 1G sticks currently installed.

According to the above, you have
1x 512 Meg Card in the first slot
1x 1 Gig Ram card in the second slot
By the way, it should be around the other way.

It is advisable to keep all rams the exact same, in respect to:
Size
Manufacture
Speed
Voltage
Type
Basically exactly the same

Here's a couple of links that may help you

https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic65114.html
http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=3743

Many users have different amounts (and manufactures) of rams installed without fault. Basically some work well together (But not all)

I think this is it:

24739.jpg

Or it's a black case one

Anyway it's a Acer Aspire T180

DDR2 SDRAM

Max Supported RAM 4 GB

Number of Memory Slots 2 x 240 Pin DIMMs • 4 x 240 Pin DIMMs

Supported RAM Speeds 533 MHz

where is the typo?

I have 2 1Gig cards in my systerm current, one came with the system and I added the other one about a year ago. The two Crucial cards where recommended when I was on there site and they did a scan of my system.

where is the typo?.
I think you mean DDR2 PC2-4200 Memory (not DDR2 PC24200)

But due to your poor Eglish, it is understandable
But you should be aware that it is difficult to read.

Also in future you may want to say you have an "Acer Aspire T180"
Or at least put this in your profile (answering Yes, to show them too)

Also, your last post.
Have you tried the two new cards on their own?
If it still does not work, then it must be faulty DOA Ram, please RMA them
(I only say this, because you have already confirmed the correct Ram from doing the Crucial scan)

Tedster thank you very much for this post! If I understand correctly, if I have 4 1G sticks of ram (one in each slot) then they should all be by the same company. Right now I have in the first slot the one that same with the system, 2nd slot is 1G Kingston and the 3rd and 4th are my new Crucial. Would you recommend upgrading the original two to Crucial? Or could I get away with re-arranging the cards, like you said from largest density to smallest?

I took the two new Crucial cards out right away when this happened. I did notice that they were fairly warm when I took them out.

QUOTE]

Can we please stick to the issue at hand. Personal comments are uncalled for. You don't know me and I don't appreciate you making these foolish assumptions. I don't see how DDR2 PC24200 is very difficult to understand given the fact that I typed exactly how it appears on the stick. I really do appreciate the help but I don't need some stranger on a computer judging me based on how I type. I am sure you wouldn't appreciate it either!

Now I am the ONLY one helping you here, you do realize?

I can link you to a couple of threads on how to post clearly and the importance of wording, but I believe the point is now taken. Just FYI all my posts are clear and directed at the issue at hand, always. My foolish assumptions are based on your words, using an informed judgement only from that. i.e. First impressions count!

So I try to do the start repair and it states that it cant repair issue.
What do you mean?
Have you started a Windows Repair, using your Windows CD?
Is this still happening, or has the Repair been cancelled now?

The funny things is though, if I select Start Windows As Normal it will work and I am able to get to my desktop with no issues.
What do you mean?
How did you "Start Windows As Normal", wasn't it repairing?
So the Ram does work? Or it doesn't?

So I took the cards out and restarted with my existing 2 cards and their were no issues
What do you mean?
Weren't the cards working? According to your previous comment.

Here are my specs;
What do you mean?
We are talking about Ram. Not Video cards and CPU
These things belong in your Profile
Judging by the many and varied posts you have made, I would strongly advise you to do this. Make sure you put your system as Acer Aspire T180, and your OS as Vista 32bit (I think it's that??) Note: These things are discussed, clearly, to members who originally post in the Introduce yourself forum. I'd suggest you still check this forum out.

I aslo have a 32 bit OS
What do you mean?
Please refer to the above, fully!
32 bit OS has been around since Windows 3.1 So you may need to elaborate here!

The two Crucial cards where recommended when I was on there site
Really? Well then that's not the issue
But I quoted, just to keep with my present response: English and clear speaking.

I have already, clearly stated this info. (The answer was, not always)
Are you now asking Tedster for his support? And not my very thorough support?
Then you post 3 times in a row, instead of using Edit

it is always best to have all the sticks the same. Even better is just have 2 sticks with higher capacity.

Kimsland, I apologize if I am not explaining the issue properly to you, but this is an open forum and not everyone on here has the experience and knownledge of yourself. Allow me to make this clearer for you. All answer your questions in point forum as direct as possible.

Question 1: I do realize that you are trying to help and I appreciate that, like I already stated.

Question 2: Startup repair, when I turn my PC on I get a screen that asks me to either Start Windows as Normal or Run Startup Repair, this happens because the pc was not able to startup properly so Windows Startup Repair will try to correct the issue, it scans for possible fixes for a few minutes and then it gives me the option to either do a System Restore or continue repair. If I continue with the repair it will eventually say that Windows was unable to start, click Finish to shutdown the PC.

Question 3: Now if I choose to start Windows as Normal (which isn't recommended), it will bring up the desktop, but once I am finish and do a proper Shut Down the next time I will get this option again (ie. Startup Repair or Start Windows as Normal)

Question 4: If I remove the new Crucial cards (which I currenlty have done) I have no issues with BSOD, unable to start options, it will bring out the desktop as it should.

Question 5: I posted the specs for my card because your originally thought I had a 512 stick and 1GB, but I actually have 2 1G sticks and my Ati cards used 512MB which is why in the Welcome Center Screen it reads 1.5GB. I have WINDOWS VISTA BASIC HOME 32 BIT SYSTEM.

Question 6: I felt that it was extremely important to make it clear to everyone that these cards were recommended by the manufacturer, so I wouldn't get questions about what my PC supported, what board I have, etc...

Question 7: At this point my friend it's clear to me that your frustrated with my lack or proper Tech Spot posting skills, or else you wouldn't feel the need to try pick apart every sentence I type. If this is true then do as both a favor and don't respond to this thread. This is not the only board on the net and you aren't the only one on here who can help. Again I am asking for help and I really appreciate all the suggestion but I don't come on here to be ridaculed.

Quesiton 8: No I have not yet tried the two new cards on there own.

I hope my second impression was more to your liking then my first:grinthumb

Yes it was.

Actually it sounded just like me! (thanks for adapting so quickly)

Ok

Please try the two new cards in, and the old ones out.

Working? Yes. Then this is confusing, I must have missed something
Working? No Then you have faulty new Ram (or crucial got it wrong)

Please let me know

edit:

By the way, I logged off for a while, unrelated to here.
But it may have looked as though I wasn't replying any longer

Two new card by itself worked. I have more information regarding the other two cards. One card is 512MB PC2-5300 by Nanya, and the 2nd is 1GB PC2-4300 by Kingston.

Reading this correspondence with some interest - but Kimsland, aren't you rather hard on
someone whose first language might not be English, but who writes pretty well understandably....? No doubt (s)he will be glad of your technical help, but maybe we could lighten up on the criticisms, eh?

Two new card by itself worked.
That's great, we have found the issue.

Please purchase all the same Ram (as your new ones)

It was the word, "foolish" that made me see red.
I may have gone over the top though
I'm ok now though, thanks for your thoughts

English knowledge

:cool:Thank you Kimsland for this professional reply. Don't
we all do it sometimes? I know I do.
