Mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ overclocks like crazy

Outrageous overclocks outed

WEBSITE Warp2search.net has reported on what is may be AMD's best-kept secret - the overclocking abilities of its mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ processor.
As it's a mobile device, the top operating voltage is low, at 1.45 volts. Also, because thermal performance has to be so much better than the standard desktop processor, mobile parts are generally selected from the cream of the crop. Additionally, the multiplier is apparently unlocked.

All of this, to the knowledgeable overclocker, is seventh heaven.

Overclocks on this chip up to 2.7GHz are not uncommon. When one considers that the frequency of this device is 1.87 GHz (266 FSB), that’s a 830MHz increase, which is a 44% overclock.

Now, the souped-up mobile XP clearly won't be equivalent to an Athlon 64 of the same speed grade, but it would certainly give the enthusiast some serious bragging rights for a chip that only costs $98.

Newegg in the US and CPU City in the UK (£69.33 inc. VAT) are selling this device. But just remember that this is a "mobile" processor, so it may not just drop in and run. Best you do your homework before you buy. µ

woo.....finally a use for PC4000 RAM on a AMD machine...
*considers selling current 2500+ for a mobile version - then realises there is no chance of overclock RAM - drat*
So, how long till we see a 3Ghz XP?
