On the apple site, it says you need an intel mac with leopard to run the iPhone sdk. Why would a power pc mac with leopard not work?

Because you did not met the requirements. Intel <> PPC Mac and the binarys in the
sdk only run on Intel.

PPC Macs are 10.3 and BELOW
Intel Macs are 10.4 and ABOVE

Well, My Powerbook G4 came from Apple with Tiger preinstalled. So they shipped ppc macs with 10.4.

Like it or not ppc Macs are dying. I'm sort of surprised Apple's SDK doesn't work with ppc Macs, since there are quite a few people that still use them (me included), but then when I think about the people that have Macs and an iPhone, they are the people that would have an Intel Mac. You must be an exception.
