PSU Question

I've been looking at this PSU...

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=ITD&body=MAIN

And I have a quick question...

Could all the +12V rails in this PSU be combined to get the total amperage for +12V, or are these rails seperate.

The Times Table in Action........

They're showing four 12 volt rails @ 18 amperes each. So, that's 18 times 4 which equals 72 amps. If you multiply 18 amps times 12 volts you get about 864 watts, so I think the answer is no.

I don't know if this PSU is a good one, or if it would meet your needs, maybe we should start there. Someone else will be along shortly to ring in on this. (I hope).

Thanks, don't why I didn't think about doing the math...

It seems that 18 amps is not very high, why would they make it so low?

That's a maximum figure across the four rails. Usually it's a bit flexible and you might be drawing 20 amps from one rail and 10 from another. If you added all the maximum amperage from all voltages, you'd probably get a 1000 watts or so, it's just that you wouldn't be drawing the max from all the taps in normal use.
