My computer crashed and when i restarted it this is what im getting:

windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\sytem32\config\system

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the orginal setup CD-rom.
Selet "r" a the first sreen to start repair


I try to boot from the CD and when it says Windows is starting to load setup|(so i can try to repair it in order to get it working again),but before i get to the repair option, i get the blue crash screen and i dont know what to do.

Please please help me, im freaked out

Just to confirm

You are booting (starting your computer) from the Windows Setup CD (I'm assuming Xp Home) and selecting the second R prompt

I'd also recommend detaching any not required additional hardware (Printers; cameras etc) first

Before i even get toi "Welcome to setup, Press Enter" then i would press R.....Before i even get to press Enter to attempt a repair, i get the blue screen of death...What can i do? =[

Ok go to the first R prompt (instead)
And log on to the Administrator account, ie:

then
Enter key

Then on the command line type

chkdsk c: /f

Then press enter, and wait for the filesystem to be repaired
Then restart

It wont even let me press R at the first prompt(Im not getting any prompts) because i get the blue screen of death before that happens =\

Ok we're getting low now

You need to detach any not required hardware (as mentioned before)
This includes USB devices, or even addon cards in a PC

Then turn on your computer
Press the DEL (or whichever key it displays) to go into your System Bios Setup
Once in Bios setup, locate setup defaults (it may say "Optimized Defaults")
Apply it
Save and exit (which is F10)
Restart

This is quite a concern
Because it means there is such an issue, that you cannot even re-install Windows if you wanted to

You will need to start checking things such as your Ram. ie [URL="http://www.techspot.com/vb/post653029-21.html"]Memtest[/URL]
And Hard Drive ie [URL="http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic7602.html"]Harddrive diagnostics[/URL]
It can actually be other hardware including Video; Sound; Network or Modem cards internally to your computer. Possibly even [URL="http://www.techsupportforum.com/1010960-post1.html"]Benchtesting [/URL]may help

You may need to first physically remove your Harddrive and manually plug it into another computer (as a secondary drive) and do any backups from there

Well, i did install TWO 1gb RAM into my computer. might that has something to do with it?

Yes, I'd say No.1 possibility

i took the ram out, now what? i tried to boot windows cd but got the same problem

You may need to elaborate a bit
You reseated the Ram?
You put the old Ram in, and took the new Ram out?
You just took the Ram out? (this one you said)

I had TWO 1 Gb RAM originally, Yesterday i put in 2 new memories but changed the position of the memories. Now i took the new memories out, and put the old ones(which where always in the computer) in their original position

SOLUTION:

Your windows SOFTWARE main registry is corrupt. Your harddrive may be failing?

1. remove the hard drive and ideally back it up.
2. put in a second temporary hard drive and reinstall the same version of windows or run recovery disk.
3. After windows is reinstalled then copy the file called SOFTWARE to the same directory on the old hard drive and there are a few other files that go along with it and you will have a working system. The other reg files called security and system contain the hardware aspects of windows - mainboard, drivers, etc.

probably it will be easier to just start all over with a new system.

But the CD doesn't even start, from boot

We are presently checking Ram, seeming that's the recent hardware installed
and I have already mentioned harddrive

Thanks for your help guys, but i think my computer decided to give up on me. Im going to take it tomorrow to a tech to see what he tells me, maybe hell fix it and i dont need a new one.
