I can't get a computer I'm working on to recognize my D drive (CD ROM Drive)

I've tried boot disks that I made from this site.

But to no avail..

The computer I'm working on has been formatted, and I have no software that came with it.

The only thing written on the cd rom plate is:

'Compact Disk Re-Writable High Speed'

and

'RW 8 - 8 - 32'

About the only thing those boot disks seem to be good for is getting me into DOS.

You don't need any special drivers for a CD-ROM drive to work in Windows.

Most likely you have made a mistake connecting the drive. First thing you have to do is to make the BIOS recognise the thing.

Make sure the cables are connected properly and the master/slave jumpers are set right. See that the IDE device detection in BIOS is set to "automatic" and that you haven't disabled secondary IDE controller for example.

Well the hard drive has been formatted, so really I have no OS. And I wasn't the one who installed the cd rom drive, it was there when I got the computer.

As far as BIOS go, I can't get into them as they are pw protected, and I don't have the pw. Anyone have a way around that while I'm at it?

Do you have the manual for your motherboard?

If so, locate the jumper to clear CMOS/BIOS settings. Doing that should remove the BIOS pw.

If not, just remove the batter for 10 min, and everything should be reset.

Then check what Didou said (as that seems like the most probable problem).
