I have a dell xps m1710 with vista. I recently installed kubuntu 7.10 to learn how to use linux. Now, I cannot boot into vista at all, and the only way I can run kubuntu is from the cd. I think i may have not partioned correctly(possibly to one of my externals) but I don't know how to tell. I tried fdisk, and this is what I get:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ fdisk

Usage: fdisk [-l] [-b SSZ] [-u] device
E.g.: fdisk /dev/hda (for the first IDE disk)
or: fdisk /dev/sdc (for the third SCSI disk)
or: fdisk /dev/eda (for the first PS/2 ESDI drive)
or: fdisk /dev/rd/c0d0 or: fdisk /dev/ida/c0d0 (for RAID devices)

Can anyone help? I know next to nothing about linux, and it's kind of hard to learn if it isn't working right

Hi mate

the new drives use a dell restore thing, it consists of 3 partitions, 1 with tools 1 with the OS and 1 with ghost and a backup of the OS.

As you installed Unubtu you screwed the parttion table up however all isnt lost see this webpage

http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/

your going to need to read it fully and it does work if you have any questions read the site through, it does take some understanding but it will get you working again

regards
